Atari Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the US; set for Auction

For anyone 30 years or older, Atari was our first introduction to video games. I remember being 5 years old and obsessed with pong and Pitfall.

25 years later, its sad to see the iconic company filing for Bankruptcy in the US. In an attempt to separate Atari Interactive from its French parent company, Atari S.A; the company filed in New York yesterday, meaning its logo and right to their games will soon be auctioned off. While there is still Atari Interactive which develops mobile apps based on the original games, its a sad day to see such an icon falling to hard times.

So while I’d personally love to buy the Atari logo at auction and turn it into a cultural symbol, what would you buy? Pitfall, Pong, Centipede, Asteroids?

Also, now that I think about it, I can’t help but think or at least want to believe the developers behind an amazing game like Uncharted grew up loving Pitfall.
