The last we saw of a Drakengard title was back on the PlayStation 2, but it looks like we’ll be getting a new injection of the cult-classic action RPG series soon. Famitsu has revealed that members of the original team are coming back together to work on Drakengard 3 (Drag-on Dragoon 3 in Japan).
Many of the developers from the Cavia Drakengard team worked on the PS3 title Nier, a spiritual spin-off/successor to the Drakengard series. According to Famitsu, key players in the original games’ development and in Nier’s are coming together in the Access Games studio to develop the official third entry to the series. Musical composer Keiichi Okabe is even getting in on this sweet sweet dragon action.
Drakengard 3 is planned for a Japanese release sometime in 2013. It may be a while until we see the title make its way to English-speaking audiences, if we see it at all. Let’s hope Square Enix localizes this gem instead of ignoring it to focus on PlayStation 4 titles. The game’s official Japanese site can be found here.
