Nintendo’s Amiibo figurines have become so massive on the collectible market that many stores in North America are simply incapable of meeting the serious demand they are receiving. Some of these toy figures are selling online for tens of thousands, all because there is a shortage in certain markets – specifically the North American market.
The Rarest of Them All:
Legless Princess Peach
The Legless Princess Peach Amiibo is selling on eBay for upwards of $25,100. The figurine has no legs due to a manufacturing defect, which is the reason for its rarity.
Mega Yarn Yoshi
The Mega Yarn Yoshi is currently selling for anywhere between $60 to $80 (some as high as $100), depending on which online retail website you fancy. The oversized (7-inch) figurine was a Toys R’ Us exclusive, making it quite rare in certain parts of the world, especially due to the limit stores had.
Dual Cannon Samus
Samus, Metroid‘s famous female bounty hunter, received a pretty hefty price upgrade when duel wielding became a possibility in the Amiibo world. Thrifty shoppers can get their hands on this figurine for a staggering $2,500 – which is only ten percent of what Legless Peach is worth right now.
No-Lefty Luigi
Another manufacturing defect left this figurine version of Luigi without a left hand. One sold on eBay for around $500. This is one of the last defective Amiibos that actually sold for a high amount.
Inkling Squid
Inkling Squid is an adorable little Amiibo figurine, but one that everyone seems to love. While the price increase was quite modest – they are selling for $30 on eBay – they once sold for far less in stores.
Villager
You would think something as common as the Villager from Animal Crossing would be easy to come by. Unfortunately, expect to pay around $70 on various auction websites for this figurine.
Greninja
Greninja, an exclusive Pokemon ninja Amiibo pre-order item, was sold out well before the figure hit store shelves. It may be nearly impossible to get your hands on one these days.
Little Mac
Little Mac, one of the Nintendo fighters included in the new Super Smash Bros., rose to stardom in the Amiibo world, too. You can take the chance of grabbing one during an auction, but expect to pay an arm and a leg to do so.
Gold Mario
One would expect a Gold Mario figurine to be quite rare and worth hundreds – if not thousands. This Amiibo is selling for about $60 on auction websites, which is still a stretch from its original pricing.
Marth
Marth, of the Fire Emblem world, saw success in his own franchise and as a fighter in Super Mario Bros. Due to such an intense popularity boost, his Amiibo sells for around $50 on auction sites.
Robin
Robin, another Fire Emblem character, requires the Amiibo figurine in order to play as him in the game. It is tempting to purchase the figurine for the in-game character, but he’ll set you back a good $40.
Pit
Pit, of Kid Icarus fame, made a comeback in the recent video game. Some Amiibo figurines tend to become so rare because they are relatively unknown, while those like Pit are just beloved by everyone.
Palutena
Palutena, another Kid Icarus figurine, is probably the rarest one from the franchise. The goddess has long been sold out, but you can find them on certain markets for about $30 to $40.
Dark Pit
Keeping with the Kid Icarus theme, this dark version of Pit has become rather rare. It quickly sold out at Best Buy when it originally launched last year, so buyers should expect to pay $20 or so.
Wii Fit Trainer
The Wii Fit Trainer Amiibo is a pretty basic model, but one that has become rather rare. You should expect to pay around three times the original retail price to get your hands on this yoga figure.
If you manage to get your hands on any of these Amiibo figurines, be sure to hang onto them tightly. In a couple of years, who knows, they may be worth even more than what they are selling for today.
