Dark Souls 3 has loads of weapons for players to choose from. Whether you are a straight swordsman or someone who likes their swords to be a little greater, there is certainly bound to be one weapon up to your liking. If you’re character is a strength or dexterity build, there are a large variety of dominant weapons. 5 of them are extremely deadly and well worth the trouble to find.
If you’re character is based around faith and intelligence then check out these weapons to get the most out of your paladin or Cleric.
#5. Deep Battle Axe
Attribute requirement: 12 Strength, 8 Dexterity
The Deep Battle-Axe is one of the best early weapons in the game. Along with a decent amount of physical damage, it does additional dark damage making it a must have for the early bosses of the game. The challenge becomes a little less daunting when wielding this light weapon.
The real challenge is getting this weapon. The Deep Battle-Axe is found in a room that is guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. In the tower beneath the dragon is a mimic chest that will reward you with the weapon upon death. Killing the mimic chest this early in the game is easier said than done but it is well worth it.
#4. Sunlight Straight Sword
Attribute requirement: 12 Strength, 12 Dexterity
While not the most damaging weapon of the bunch, the Sunlight Straight Sword has a lot to like about it. This sword allows you to decrease the amount of damage you take and in a FromSoftware game that is a HUGE advantage. It also can boost attack and damage by using the Oath of Sunlight skill.
The Sunlight Straight Sword can be found in a mimic chest beside the white dragon that guards the bridge to Lothric Castle.
#3. Irithyll Straight sword
Attribute requirement: 12 Strength, 14 Dexterity
THE most dominant straight sword in the game is the Irithyll Straight sword. The sword builds Frost damage after each attack and can be swung at an outrageous rate. Lucky for all who play Dark Souls 3, you will eventually acquire it regardless of whether you use it or not. The sword can be obtained from an Outrider Knight guarding the door to the Road of Sacrifices. You must go to the Road of Sacrifices, therefore, you must cross paths with this fearsome knight.
Tread lightly, however, because this knight is a pain to kill. Regardless of the weapon and shield you are using, the Outrider Knight has very sporadic movements and is best taken down AFTER you have opened the door behind him. There is a bonfire on the other side of the door and the knight will not leave the room he is in so he can practically be cheesed.
#2. Fume Ultra Greatsword
Attribute requirement: 50 Strength, 10 Dexterity
What. In. The. Hell.
That is what most PVP players in Dark Souls 3 say when they have encountered someone with the Fume Ultra Greatsword. This thing is massive and unforgiving. Unfortunately, it requires 50 Strength and is a load with a weight of 25.5. If your build supports this sword, then it is a must have. It can deal an absurd amount of damage and is definitely one of the most-used weapons in the entire game.
In order to obtain the Fume Ultra Greatsword, you will have to encounter Knight Slayer Tsorig near the Smouldering Lake. Be careful, as Knight Slayer Tsorig (obviously) has this weapon and can end you in one hit most likely.
#1. Dark Sword
Attribute requirement: 16 Strength, 15 Dexterity
All hail the deadly Dark Sword and those that wield it. This thing just rips and tears through anything in its path and simply does not care how big and bad the boss is. In fact, I have personally nicknamed this weapon the ‘big bad boss killer’ for just how awesome it is. The fact that it is a lightweight weapon and can be swung like a straight sword while hitting like giant machete makes it even greater.
On top of all of that, the Dark Sword is a rather easy find. Once you have located the Farron Keep Perimeter bonfire, head back towards the Abyss Watchers boss fight arena and you will notice two Dark Wraiths. One will charge at you if you are standing just outside the doorway to the bonfire while the other continues on. Take them down separately and if you don’t get the Dark Sword on the first try then farm the dark wraiths until the sword is yours.
Plenty More
Let me make it known again that there is A TON of weapons in Dark Souls 3. From a branch to a butcher’s knife, the options are basically endless. While these 5 may be some of the better options, there are players who will like other weapons more. Let me know what those weapons are in the comments below. I am very interested in hearing about what weapons you have used along your journey. Seriously, if anybody has used the white tree branch the whole game then I have a medal to give you.
