It’s called Fire Emblem: Three Houses in the West, but the Three Houses expansion pass doesn’t care. On February 12, the final wave of Three Houses DLC, titled Cindered Shadows, will introduce a fourth house called the Ashen Wolves. It will also add a new side story on top of the three (or four) main scenarios.
Nintendo of America announced the new scenario in a trailer on Twitter, immediately following Masahiro Sakurai’s stream that revealed Byleth from Three Houses for Smash Bros. Ultimate as the final DLC character of the first Fighter Pass.
The Ashen Wolves house is a secret house living and operating underneath Garreg Mach Monastery. Why? We have no idea. Living underground does suggest some interesting connections with the game’s important background lore, but Ashen Wolves’ leader, Balthus, says the House is comprised mostly of rejects from society.
Get ready to unearth the secrets beneath the Garreg Mach Monastery and explore the Abyss, home to the monastery’s secret fourth house, the Ashen Wolves!#FireEmblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass Wave 4 DLC will be available on Feb. 12.

It seems players will first encounter the Ashen Wolves as enemies, regardless of which House you chose. However, as events start to unfold, they become allies and ask that you help the students fulfill their goals and set things right. It’s not clear yet how many students are in the Ashen Wolves, though. The trailer only shows us Balthus, magic-wielder Constance, Hapi the Paladin, and Yuri of the purple hair.
How long the Cindered Shadows, aka Abyss, side content will be is also unclear. Since it’s billed as side content, it probably won’t be a full narrative arc like the other four paths, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
