The Witcher series has been a favorite of mine for a little while now. I’ve always loved Fantasy RPGs, and I got to try the first Witcher title a couple of years ago, receiving the sequel as a Christmas present from a close friend of mine. The games are solid Western RPG fare, quite fun to play. With an extremely well written storyline, well developed characters, and deep customization of your character’s abilities and stats, the Witcher titles are worth checking out.

The Wild Hunt

Now there’s been word of all sorts involving the next in line for the Witcher series. The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is doing it’s best to provide an even deeper and more involved game. And word from CDProjekt has been that the game will feature over 300 variations of its prologue. Apparently, the world in the game is comprised of 36 separate “World States, which appear to be like small city states within the mythos. Each world state will have 3 separate ending prologues based upon the player’s actions within, or involving, that World State.

I’m really happy to hear that CDP is working to make the game experience unique for each player. Too many games these days promise something along these lines, and we end up with the same endings with different color filters, or the same characters wearing a different outfit. One of my personal favorite titles, Alpha Protocol, managed to pull this off really well. If you are interested, my review can be found here.

So what will The Witcher 3 be like?

Not too much is known yet. The devs say they want to keep it similar to the previous games, but also cited a lot of inspiration from Skyrim. When I first heard this I kind of panicked, as I found Skyrim to get pretty dull, quickly. But Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz had this to say:

“You can’t show that you’ve got some generic solutions or engineering stuff in the game. And Skyrim, it was generic; you could make the same quest a few times and every time the NPC didn’t spot that you made it for him previously. To make this immersion every quest needs to be designed this way that NPC reacts for what you are doing.”

That made me smile, and got me even more excited for the Wild Hunt. So here’s to my fellow Witchers around the world. Hope we get to check this out soon!
