Dead Island 2: Is There New Game Plus?

If you're wondering if Dead Island 2 has New Game Plus more, we have the answer, as well as what you can do when the campaign's over.

Dead Island 2 has a meaty campaign with 24 main missions, not including sidequests, challenges, and optional objectives. While you can expect a dozen hours or so of playtime, you may be wondering if DI2 has a New Game Plus mode or if you can keep playing after the campaign is over. Here’s what you need to know about Dead Island 2 NG+.

So, does Dead Island 2 have a New Game Plus mode? Unfortunately, Dead Island 2 does not have a New Game+ mode.

Can I Keep Playing Dead Island 2 After the Campaign?

While there are a lot of unresolved narrative threads at the end of the game, you won’t get to see those conclusions at this point through NG+ mode. Instead, you can continue playing through regular free-roam exploration. This includes revisiting most areas in the game and doing any sidequests you may have missed.

There are, however, some end-game activities that reward Legendary weapons. While Emma’s Wrath might be the first legendary weapon that you’ll acquire as you’re progressing through the story, the rest of the Legendary weapons can be obtained via Lost & Found quests in the post-game free-roam sections

Some examples that we detail in separate guides are the Bodycount, Blood Rage, and Party Starter. Additionally, since you’re pretty much done with all main missions, you can help newbies via the co-op system.

Starting a New Game With a New Slayer Character

Since there’s no New Game Plus mode in Dead Island 2, starting a fresh run just means redoing the story from the beginning. If you plan on picking a different Slayer character your second time around, you’ll want to take note of the following:

  • As soon as you can interact with the first stash, you can see any items and weapons your main character has squirreled away. Unfortunately, because these are likely to have high-level requirements, you can’t use them yet.
  • Some Survivor Cards might be different (i.e., Dani and Jacob get the Serial Killer card, but Amy and Bruno get Bob & Weave instead).
  • All Skill Cards and Curveballs will still need to be obtained normally through progression and exploration.

But that answers the question of whether or not Dead Island 2 has a New Game Plus mode. You can continue the campaign in free-roam mode after you’ve completed it, bashing more zombie skulls and collecting more weapons and items.
