New items in the BlizzCon store offer a hint at what the upcoming Diablo announcement might be.

The New Diablo Project is Still a Mystery, But We Now Have a Major Clue

New items in the BlizzCon store offer a hint at what the upcoming Diablo announcement might be.

For a long time, Diablo fans have been waiting for Blizzard to announce something new for the franchise. After all, it’s been a few years since Diablo III‘s last full expansion was released. As time has worn on, fans have begun to wonder if their favorite RPG was just being neglected (despite job listings on the Blizzard site indicating something was in the works.)

Recently, all that changed when Blizzard dropped the schedule for this year’s BlizzCon. Sitting in the “we really have some big news here” slot following the convention’s opening ceremony, is the “What’s Next” Diablo panel.

Since the schedule reveal, the gaming community has been speculating about what the announcement might actually be. We even posted some of the theories that have been going around here on GameSkinny, ranging from the possibility of Diablo 4 to the Netflix show that is reported to be in the works.

Today, we have a bit more information on the upcoming announcement. No, we still don’t know exactly what it is. But thanks to the most recent items added to the BlizzCon gear store (initially discovered by Game Reactor)  we now know that whatever it is, it’s titled Reign of Terror.

Now, this is just speculation on my part, but based on the title structures of previous Diablo games, I don’t think this is going to be Diablo 4Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 did not have a secondary title at launch. Those came with the expansions.

So whatever it is, it’s new.

Of course, we’ll just have to wait a bit longer and see.

What do you think Diablo Reign of Terror is? A new game? A Netflix show? Or something else entirely? Let us know in the comments below.
