The latest 1.14 update for Minecraft Java Edition brought a whole slew of content to the game, most of which found its way to Bedrock Edition earlier this year. The blast furnace is among that list, making it time for Java players to get in on the smelting action.
So what does the Minecraft blast furnace do? Like the regular furnace, the blast furnace is used to smelt ore into ingots.
Blast Furnace Perks
The blast furnace can also be used to melt down equipment for raw ore. The big draw is that the blast furnace smelts twice as fast as the regular furnace. It’s perfect for when you need to craft several ingots in a short period of time.
Each use of the blast furnace consumes the same amount of fuel per item as a regular furnace. You don’t have to seek out extra blocks of coal (or your preferred fuel source) to get your smelting done.
Blast Furnace Recipe
Let’s move on to how to make a blast furnace in Minecraft.
The ingredients for crafting a blast furnace are:
- Five iron ingots
- Three smooth stones
- One furnace
Below is how you get each individual component. You must make this at a crafting table.
How to make a furnace
The first thing you need is a regular furnace. You need the standard furnace to make the ingredients for the blast furnace, and to use in the recipe itself.
You can find a regular furnace in a village or craft one yourself. To craft a standard furnace, you need eight cobblestone.
How to Make Smooth Stone
You need to use a furnace to make smooth stone.
Put one stone in the furnace and smelt it to get a smooth stone. You’ll have to do this three times for this recipe.
How to Make Iron Ingots
Using the furnace is the most efficient way to craft iron ingots, but you can do so by manually crafting as well. Here are the three methods you can use to craft iron ingots:
- One block of iron can be used to make 9 iron ingots (crafting grid)
- Nine iron nuggets can be used to make one iron ingot (crafting table)
- One iron ore can be smelted into one iron ingot (furnace)
With everything in your inventory and a crafting table on-hand, you too can be the proud owner of your very own Minecraft blast furnace! Hopefully, this has helped you. Take a look at some of our Minecraft guides here on GameSkinny or even our Minecraft seeds lists.
