Developer Fool’s Theory may be busy with The Witcher Remake and assisting Larian with Baldur’s Gate 3, but today they’ve announced their own original title following in the aforementioned RPG greats’ footsteps: The Thaumaturge.
The Thaumaturge is an isometric RPG set in a gritty, 20th century Warsaw, Poland, with the tagline “Everyone has their demons.” With the ability to see into a person’s psyche, no secret is safe from a Thaumaturge.
The world is filled unknown beings called Salutors that only the Thaumaturges can see. Using the Salutors, Thamaturges can control other people by exploiting their fears, desires and secrets, changing the world around them. Gameplay is comprised of morally ambiguous choices in a culturally mixed and politically charged Warsaw.
No other information on gameplay or the objective of The Thamaturge has been released. While the combat will be turn-based, how the investigative and character development choices effect the game remain to be seen. Do answers that go against a character’s morality change anything? Answers may be forthcoming soon, as behind doors demo will be available at GDC, happening this March in San Francisco, CA.
The game is in development by 11 Bit Studios, creators of Frostpunk and This War of Mine, as well as Fool’s Theory who are currently working on The Witcher Remake. Previous works for Fool’s Theory include Seven: The Days Long Gone.
