Okay, you know how sometimes something so cool will happen that you just can’t help but give a little cheer? A fist-pump, a whoop, waving your arms in the air like you just don’t care? That just happened. Black Adam is confirmed playable in Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Black Adam is, in the comics, a foe/antihero counterpart to Shazam. He was one of the early people to hold the power of Shazam, during the proud times of ancient Egypt, who was corrupted into a tool to strike at the modern incarnation of Shazam. He eventually regains control and stages a coup of the dictator of the modern version of his ancient country, Khandaq, where he takes over as ruler.
He’s a harsh person, not inherently a villain so much as a very uncompromising and brutal man working and fighting to give his country the best, even if the Justice Society thinks he is too harsh. His journey and motivations have always been involved and complex, with many (myself included) finding him far more interesting than Shazam himself. Any ‘villain’ who publicly executes super villains he catches within his borders is an interesting character, and having him in Injustice proves that the story is making monumental events happen worldwide.
As Ed Boon said on his personal twitter, “Did you really think we would make INJUSTICE without including Black Adam as a playable character?”
