Telltale’s The Walking Dead game is a hit. You don’t need loads of numbers and paragraphs of words to tell you that, right? Too bad: Over 8.5 million episodes of the game have been sold across all platforms. Whew, that felt good to get out there!
The Wall Street Journal spoke with CEO Dan Connors about the success of the game. Connors revealed the above sales numbers, 25% of which being from iOS sales. He mentions that Telltale’s average revenue per player is around $16, and that this number is consistent between the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and iOS versions of the game.
The iOS version of first episode of the game was free over the holidays, and the PC version of the entire game found itself in the spotlight during Steam’s holiday sales as well. Despite how often the game gets discounted, Telltale Games still comes ahead on the $16 average per user.
With Season 1 of Telltale’s The Walking Dead completed and Season 2 currently in pre-development, fans of the game have a lot of waiting to do to see the continuation. It’s good to see that the game has been a success for the studio, but I’ll be frank — this wait is going to kill me.
