All the news seems to be coming up Grand Theft Auto V this week. The ESRB released some of the… highlights…  of just how down ‘n’ dirty GTA V was getting in their rating summary for the upcoming title early this week, and now Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V has gone gold.

This means that the game is now ready for release. Now, this is only to be expected since GTA V is on track for its upcoming release on September 17 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

However…

“Spoilers!”

It’s been a little over three years since the last Grand Theft Auto title, so fans might perhaps be forgiven for a little over-excitement. Some fans who downloaded the digital pre-order through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets leading to leaked information and media from the game which were then blasted far and wide across the internet.

Some big names, some a little more obscure, some you expected, some you definitely didn’t. This may not be the entire soundtrack yet, as it was a developing leak over the past week.

In the meantime, Rockstar has confirmed the leak as genuine in a roundabout way by issuing the following statement:

“As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game’s launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn’t be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17th. Please stay tuned here at the Rockstar Newswire for all announcements about GTAV between now and game release as we definitely still have more to officially reveal.”

Similarly, Sid Shuman, Social Media Manager over at Sony issued this statement about the situation:

Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets. These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe. We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17.

Whoa now. While music plays an arguably large part in the enjoyment of the game, players are hardly going to vote yay or nay on that aspect alone, one would think.

What do you think?

Do spoilers like these really wreck the enjoyment of a game? Is there really any reason for both Rockstar and Sony to make a big deal out of fans getting an idea of what kind of music they’re in for?
