Mojang is giving a free beta download to anyone who owns Minecraft on PC. Otherwise the cost is $10. Like previous Minecraft editions, all updates in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition will be free. Mojang hasn’t given any details on how long the beta will last or what the maintenance schedule will look like.

A few features from Pocket Edition Minecraft will be found in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, along with some cool new features. One of the major crowd-pleasing features is the ability to play locally in Minecraft: Windows 10 or along with your Xbox Live Minecraft friends. There will also be a free update to Pocket Edition Minecraft soon after this new release. A built-in GameDVR will be added, so you can share your gaming highlights and experiences.

The beta begins at the end of this month, on July 29th.
