World of Warcraft was originally released on November 23rd, 2004; nearly ten years have passed and there are still millions upon millions of us playing. If you are anything like me, you have many stories to tell about this epic journey. Our goal with this contest is to highlight those amazing stories and share them with the world.
And we figured: Hey, why not give away some cool stuff in exchange for your stories? Does a full FigurePrints figure of your character or a signed copy of Warlords of Draenor Collectors Edition sound cool enough to you? They do to me!
The real and virtual worlds collide
For a lot of us, this game has been a major part of our lives. Time-wise, WoW has been there for me for about 40% of my life. For those of you who are younger, it may be an even higher percentage. This, for me, means that WoW is one of the most important and constant things in my life. No matter what, I’ve always been able to hop on, comforted by the fact that Azeroth and it’s denizens would be ready for adventure.
World of Warcraft is an integral part of who I am today – without it, I would be a completely different person. If I never played WoW, I wouldn’t have this job and GameSkinny wouldn’t have the opportunity to offer this community contest.
Share your story
It amazes me, the real world effects of a virtual world – we all have stories about what WoW has meant to us. We at Guild Launch and GameSkinny want to hear all of those stories! Be it entertaining, tragic, relationship stories (platonic or romantic), life changing stories, guild stories, or even if you have a hilarious story about an in-game bug, we want to hear it all!
So please, come share your epic story with the world and show why WoW has been running ten years strong and shows no signs of stopping.
Prizes: Winners get their characters immortalized in full FigurePrints – worth $130 each!
Why you might ask? Winners will each receive their own FigurePrint gift certificate. If you are unsure what FigurePrints are, they are a company that takes your character from Armory and prints it into a 3D figurine. The full figurines are each a $130 value! Check out FigurePrints here.
Here are some cool examples. Notice how you can even customize the stance of the character:
You thought I was done, didn’t you? After these winners, we will be selecting a single grand prize winner. Their prize?
The only difference between the picture above and the actual prize is it will have Blizzard employee signatures on it! The signatures will include the Community Management team and whoever else they bring in to sign (fingers crossed for a Chris Metzen signature)! In case you don’t know all the cool things that are coming with the Collector’s Edition, check out the full list here.
Are you ready to quest for that sweet loot? Here’s how to enter:
- Gather your thoughts and post them to GameSkinny (you can also login with a Guild Launch account or Steam account). Remember, stories are meant to entertain in some way, make reading your story interesting and engage your audience! Include screenshots and videos as much as you find applicable. This is my post, if you are looking for inspiration on how a good post looks. Don’t be discouraged by the huge length of my story, you don’t need to get anywhere near that length, just entertain.
- In the Bonus Points tab, tag your entry with “#10YearsOfWoW” (we will only consider submissions with this tag!)
- Share it! Community reactions and comments are a sign of a good story. The more interaction you get, the more likely it will be considered for winning. If you can’t get people excited or interested in your story, it might not be a winner – so make sure it’s something that will resonate!
- Contest will run as of this posting (November 3rd) until November 17th. We will announce the winners on November 24th.
Check out all of the current entries here!
A group of top entries will be selected by GameSkinny Staff. These entries will be sent to the community management team over at Blizzard HQ for the final judging, where the four winners and one grand prize winner will be selected.
Judging will be based on writing quality and general awesomeness. Community comments and reactions to an entry will boost your chances as well – large community reaction usually means a great story!
Blizzard’s participating judges:
- Danielle “Nethaera” Vanderlip
- Micah “Bashiok” Whipple
- Jonathan “Zarhym” Brown
Good luck!
When I tweeted this, it gave me the idea and made me think about all the stories I could tell.
Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. 2006. WoW – Dunemaul US Horde. Buddy named Zaratai would sing it. We’d all laugh. #memories
