“Are you Prepared 4 Battle?”
The rumors for fan-favorite Battlefield 4 have been all over the place, running the gamut from dinosaurs to space(?!!) and naval combat.
Well, there is no yet word on fighting dinosaurs with tribal weapons, but EA has posted up some new campaign details and character renders up on its blog. It looks like this time the chaos has zeroed in on China as the epicenter of imminent global conflict.
You are Sergeant Daniel Recker, member of the elite Tombstone squad. The Chinese Admiral Chang is planning a coup in China, and if this happens, the Chinese and the Russians will join forces to plummet the world into chaos.
Hyperbole? Definitely. The blog post details in five long paragraphs the thrilling story of cat-and-mouse Tombstone squad plays with both Chinese and Russian forces in order to reach their objectives, ultimately culminating in chaos, confusion, and uncertainty on Singaporean shores.
And yet, for all the thought evidently put into creating a background story that will likely not play out half so well in game, the question remains…
Who really plays single player campaign Battlefield anyway?
I will be the first to admit that I am a mediocre Battlefield player… and that’s at the best of times. And yet, even in those long, interminable minutes of acute embarrassment having other people able to observe me fumbling with Battlefield 3 jet controls and crashing the damned thing upside down on a (friendly) tank, I’ve never felt the desire to crawl away back to single player campaign to lick my wounds.
Maybe that’s why I’ve never learned how to fly the silly thing. Vehicular combat is not my cup of tea.
Nevertheless, Battlefield multiplayer is. And while hackers, griefers, and overzealous admins abound, no matter what server you head onto, there really is no substitute for playing in a team, playing with your friends in a team, and playing well in a team.
Single player, what single player?
And how are people taking these new bits of news?
Rising suspicions in the Battlefield community submit this newest Battlefield 4 background tale as EA’s grudging acceptance of the playerbase’s preference for multiplayer, since it appears here and now in a blog post rather than told in a much more interactive way in game.
Whatever the reason, Sergeant Recker will not be fighting alone. Included are two high quality renders of the other members of Tombstone who will be fighting right along with you.
