It’s about time.

That perfectly describes the emotions surrounding the announced release date for Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time. The game will launch July 18 for IOS, IPad and IPod Touch.

PvZ 2 will be free-to-play, unlike other games popular to IOS right now. Upgrades and other items can be purchased in the game, but Popcap says “the vast majority of the game will be entirely free-to-play,” and “players can face every zombie and access every level in every world at no cost.” That is refreshing to hear these days.

As an expansion of the first game, you will be defending yourself against zombies who will limp, swim and even boogie their way to your “brainz.” However, PvZ 2 gives you new worlds and zombies, that will be released on an ongoing basis.

Just check out the trailer:

New worlds? Time? If you haven’t already guessed, the sequel will be a time traveling adventure. Just some of the worlds includes the Wild West, Ancient Egypt and the Future. I honestly can’t wait for the special zombies and plants to be featured.

“We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game,” said Allen Murray, Senior Producer for Plants vs. Zombies 2. “We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch.”

‘About time’ is right. The sequel is the first since the game was released in 2009 for PC and Mac. The original game was not released to IOS until 2010. Since then the game has been available on Xbox Live, Playstation Network and Vita, Nintendo DS and almost every smart phone known to man.

After seeing the trailer, I am pumped to hear the sequel to a very beloved game will be released soon. I’m sure this game will receive great feedback as soon as avid iOS gamers give it a test run. I know I will.
