Naughty Dog isn’t pulling any punches for The Last of Us Remastered

In an interview with EDGE magazine Neil Druckmann, director for The Last of Us, stated that the re-release will feature character models that rival the PS3 version’s cinematics in quality. Naughty Dog is also targeting 60fps for gameplay and will be giving the cut scenes a full overhaul to match.

Videogamer.com reports Druckmann as saying,

“Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch… It’s interesting that now, the bottleneck is ‘Can we fit all this on the disc?'”

In addition to completely updating all of the cinematics and character models, Naughty Dog will be including all of the DLC released on the PS3 version of the game for The Last of Us Remastered.

Because of this, the developer is struggling to fit all of the game’s data onto a single disc. Blu-rays can typically hold between 25-50 gigabytes depending on if they’re dual layered or not. This should give you an idea about just how much content is being packed into the game’s remastered version.

Since developers have discovered how much money can be made from HD/remastered versions of old games, the market has become flooded with titles that were originally released years ago.

Not all of those games have been worth revisiting, and some of them have seen little more than a slight improvement over the original. It’s a breath of fresh air to see Naughty Dog taking the time to really invest in The Last of Us Remastered and give gamers a truly definitive version of their critically acclaimed game.
