The Kuo-Toa, a race of fish people in BG3 (i.e. think murlocs in World of Warcraft), reside deep in the Underdark. Many players usually miss them, and even more don’t know that you can become their god. Here’s how to get worshipped by the Kuo Toa in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to be Worshiped by the Kuo Toa in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Kuo-Toa fish people in BG3 can be found in an area called the Festering Cove, which is part of the Underdark region. I recommend orienting yourself using the Arcane Tower, which is a massive landmark. You can get to the Festering Cove by going opposite the Arcane Tower though it does require a bit of exploration.
Where to Find the Festering Cove in BG3
To reach the Kuo-Toa lair, you have to go to the southern portion of the Underdark (X:65; Y: -241). You’ll spot several explosive mushrooms, as well as a chasm in a corner. You can interact with the cragged rock here. It’s located in a nook near a group of mushrooms. Use the picture below to orient yourself, find the rock, and click on it. Once you do so, your characters will climb down to the Festering Cove.
How to Interact with the Kuo-Toa and Their “God”
You’ll find the Kuo-Toa in the middle of the chamber, and it seems that they’re praying at an altar. There are some key dialogue responses here:
- “Show them what a god of death looks like! Attack!” — I personally suggest avoiding this, as it only causes all the Kuo-Toa to turn hostile.
- Investigation or Arcana — Both options will reveal the true nature of the “god” that they’re worshiping. It’s actually a redcap, a fey creature that looks like a goblin.
- Performance or Persuasion — Both options appear if you discover that it’s just a redcap in disguise. I chose Persuasion here, but Performance is also fine. This will cause the redcap to turn hostile, but the Kuo-Toa will just look on.
How to Beat Booal the Redcap in BG3
Since I only had to fight one redcap enemy, the battle was a breeze. Sending your melee vanguard with high AC and Health to lockdown Booal trivializes the fight. I used my Battle Master Fighters for their Menacing Attack, but you can also use Barbarians with Rage for damage resistance, as he primarily deals physical damage.
That said, I suggest keeping your squishy characters like Wizards or Sorcerers away from the redcap, as Booal has a nasty ability to attack three times and heal if he drops an enemy to 0.
After the battle, one of the Kuo-Toa leaders approaches you, and you simply need to tell the tribe to pay homage to my character instead. The fish people will gather around your dialogue character and worship them. This yields an Acolyte inspiration point for “Tipping the Scales” (i.e. earn the worship of the Kuo-Toa). Moreover, you’ll receive the Sickle of BOOOAL, a rare weapon that has the BOOOAL’s Blessing effect.
That’s how to get worshiped by the Kuo-Toa in Baldur’s Gate 3. Although you won’t see these fish people in BG3 later, it’s still a good idea to finish this segment during the first act. For more tips and tactics like best magic items or best spells, visit our BG3 guides hub.
