Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Platforms: All Details

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming. Here's where you can play it.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 being the direct sequel to the “most advanced Call of Duty ever made,” it should come as no surprise that it will want the largest possible user base. The tech that powered both Modern Warfare (2019) and the more recent Modern Warfare 2 reboot is also on full display. MW3 seems to intend to push every platform it’s on to its limits, though some platforms will be able to pull more off than others thanks to better hardware. We’ll go over all the platforms you can play MW3 on when it releases in this guide.

Everywhere You Can Play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Thanks to the incredibly long life of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One console generation, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be available on:

  • PlayStation 4 and 5
  • Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
  • PC via Steam and Battle.Net

Better still for fans of the series, because MW3 is the immediate follow-up game to MW2, all of the weapons and Operator characters you earned and leveled in last year’s title will carry over to the new entry. There are a few exceptions: you can’t use Camo progress from MW2 to unlock MW3 camos, and the MW2 and MW3 Captain Price are separate Operators, but these are mostly edge cases. If you invested time and possibly money into MW2 or Warzone in 2022, none of that progress is going away.

Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 are also up if that’s your thing. Pre-ordering either the Standard or Vault editions gets you early access to both the multiplayer Beta and the story single-player campaign. Note that PlayStation users on both PS4 and PS5 will have one week of early exclusive access to the Beta as they have for years. While Microsoft continues to try and seal the deal to purchase Activision, the new parent company has committed to uphold all ongoing contractual arrangements until their termination.

All that said, there’s no guarantee next year’s Call of Duty — made by Treyarch and most likely yet another entry in the Black Ops series — will follow Modern Warfare 3‘s lead. Last-generation’s consoles will be eleven years old when next year’s CoD releases, and there’s only so much hardware that dated can do. For now, though, as long as you have a PS4 or Xbox One or a PC of roughly equivalent spec, I have no doubt you’ll be able to enjoy another romp across the world with Captain Price, Soap, Ghost, Gaz, and the whole gang.

That’s it for all the platforms MW3 will be coming out on. For more pre-release coverage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, keep tabs on our guides hub for the game, as there will be more news and announcements coming in the next few months.
