Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Complete Lift the Shadow Curse

There are multiple ways to protect yourself from the Shadow Curse of Act 2, but one quest implies that it can be removed completely. The quest that lifts the Shadow Curse is what lets you finally put Halsin in your party if you recruited him. So, here’s how to complete the quest Lift the Shadow Curse in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Start Lift the Shadow Curse in Baldur’s Gate 3

Lift the Shadow Curse starts at Last Light Inn and requires that you find Thaniel and reunite him with his missing half, Oliver. When you arrive at Last Light Inn, you’ll find a man named Art Cullagh sleeping on the first floor.

Wake him up using the Battered Lute you found at the House of Healing. After you wake up Art, report to Halsin at your camp to tell him about Thaniel and the only clue that Art was able to remember. Halsin will then ask you to meet him by the lakeshore near the inn. If you make decisions during Act 2 that result in Art dying, you can still complete the quest by using the Speak with Dead spell, or scroll, to get the information about Thaniel, allowing you to continue with the quest and later recruit Halsin.

How to Find Thaniel in BG3

You’ll have to protect Halsin from waves of enemies at this part, so make sure you have a party that can deal AOE for the battle to be as easy as possible. It helps that the creatures aren’t too strong and will go for Halsin’s portal, letting you cull them without worrying too much about taking damage. Turn Undead

As you defeat the waves of creatures, Halsin will return from the portal with Thaniel. Well, half of him. But when they come out of the portal, combat will end with any remaining creatures dying. Naturally, you’ll need to make Thaniel whole again.

How to Find Thaniel’s Other Half in BG3

To find Thaniel’s other half, Oliver, you’ll need to head to the southeast of Last Light Inn to reach the rough coordinates of (X:77, Y:37). Oliver doesn’t want to return to Thaniel, so you’ll have to follow him into a portal and do some fighting before you get the chance to tell Oliver that he can play with Thaniel, meaning he won’t need to be alone anymore.

While that’s how to complete the quest Lift the Shadow Curse in Baldur’s Gate 3, the curse won’t actually be lifted from the land during your gameplay.
