Can You Save the Distressed Patient in Baldur’s Gate 3?

With the damage already dealt to him, it’s a lost cause. Unfortunately, you can’t save the Distressed Patient in Baldur’s Gate 3 in the House of Healing in the traditional sense. The best way to rescue him is by putting him out of his misery.

Rescuing the Distressed Patient Detailed: Prepare for Battle

You’ll find the House of Healing in Act 2. The Distressed Patient is shackled to a table surrounded by Shar’s Surgeon and Sisters. When you enter the room, a cutscene plays where you can attempt to avoid combat by passing skill checks. However, I didn’t roll high enough, so I ended up fighting this group. I had to reload multiple times to win the battle.

The battle is difficult for several reasons. Malus Thorm and the Sisters move a lot, which can make it hard to aim AoE spells and hit them all. Malus also deals a fair amount of damage and can one-shot characters like Astarion with his Claws attack. It’s best to go into this fight with plenty of healing options, such as scrolls and potions.

If you enter combat, you risk killing the Distressed Patient via collateral damage. However, even if you keep him alive and unlock his shackles, he’s sustained too many injuries to survive. As such, the best way to save him is to give him a quick, merciful death to put him out of his misery.

While you can’t save the Distressed Patient in Baldur’s Gate 3 in the House of Healing, you can show him mercy. Other than that, you can head to our BG3 guides hub and learn if you can save Alfira as the Dark Urge or how to save Isobel at Last Light Inn.
