Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Beat Malus Thorm

Malus Thorm is an optional boss in Act 2 who has help from a few Sisters of Shar. He’s a Level 7 big bad, but his four Sisters, who act as additional mobs, are all Level 6. That means you’ll want to be at least Level 6 or higher before heading into battle. With all that in mind, here’s how to beat Malus Thorm in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Beat Malus Thorm in Baldur’s Gate 3

Malus Thorm is found in the House of Healing in Act 2, but passing a set of Skill Checks can help you avoid fighting him altogether.

If you’ve decided that you’ll fight Malus Thorm, then you can skip speaking with him and start out with a strong AoE spell while he’s grouped with the Sisters. Fireball is great for this. The Sisters have only 48 Health, so you can take out a chunk of their health right away like this. If you’re lucky enough, you might be able to take one down immediately or within a few turns.

Kill the Sisters Before Malus

From there, the primary strategy toe beat Malus Thorm is to focus on the Sisters first. They have a lot of mobility, and their ability to put the Confusion debuff on your party members can make the battle even tougher.

The Sisters will keep returning to Malus to grab new instruments from him, so putting Grease on the area around him can help limit their mobility. Malus’ attacks are strong, but he doesn’t move around as much as the Sisters, so you can have him on Grease for a decent chunk of time.

Limit Malus’ Mobility and Be Ready to Heal Yourself

Once the Sisters are dead, Malus will keep resurrecting them. However, they’ll have 12 Health, and he only brings one back at a time. With how easy they are to kill at 12 Health, I didn’t have more than one up at a time at this point in the fight. 

Malus’ melee attacks can one-shot characters like Astarion, so you’ll still want to limit his movement as much as possible with spells like Ray of Frost and keep your distance if you can while focusing him down, but be aware that he has Magic Resistance, giving him advantage on Saving Throws against spells.
