Should You Accept Bhaal’s Gift as the Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3

After dueling Orin the Red as the Dark Urge, Bhaal wants you to be his Chosen. This entails accepting his gift while promising to control the Absolute and kill in his name, which might not be a good idea for every type of playthrough.

Accepting Bhaal’s Gift

If you accept Bhaal’s Gift, you unlock the Slayer form if you don’t already have it. However, most of your companions won’t be thrilled about this choice. Some of them hope that you’ll refuse Bhaal’s request for you to control the Absolute. Once you get to the end, this choice will have consequences for both controlling and destroying the Absolute.

If you control the Absolute, you’ll get the ending where your companions are made into mind-controlled thralls and Mindflayers invade the world. Meanwhile, you sit on your throne on a Nautiloid. So, it isn’t exactly a good ending, but if you’re going for an evil run, it fits. But if you destroy the Absolute, you’ll see a cutscene where Bhaal takes control of your body and summons Orin’s dagger, Crimson Malice, and walks away.

Rejecting Bhaal’s Gift

If you don’t accept Bhaal’s Gift, you die. Bhaal kills you, but Withers will bring you back to life free from your urges. Your companions will express joy that you’ve overcome a god. Now you get a fresh start without being controlled. You can choose to control the Absolute and get the same ending mentioned above, where you mind-control your companions and wreak havoc. However, if you destroy the Absolute, you’ll get a good ending where you save the land and live free from Bhaal’s influence.

When you’re wondering if you should accept Bhaal’s Gift as the Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll have to consider which ending you want. This will mark the end of your personal quest “The Urge” if you don’t accept the gift.
