Major League Baseball will bring this iconic franchise back from the dead!

Duuuuude…remember R.B.I. Baseball?

Recommended Videos

Those who are old enough do. A legendary sports franchise in the annals of video games, there were multiple installments back in the good ol’ days, when Nintendo and Sega dominated. We haven’t seen it in two decades; the last installment was R.B.I. Baseball 94, which launched on the Sega 32X.

Major League Baseball thinks it should return, though, and that’s awesomeR.B.I. Baseball 14 is in development at MLBAM (Major League Baseball Advanced Media); the group handles the official MLB website, as well as the sites for each of the league’s 30 teams. The new effort will head to multiple platforms (current and next-gen consoles as well as smartphones and tablets) this spring.

Unfortunately, we don’t currently have any details. All we’ve got is an enticing  teaser site that gets us all nostalgic, but doesn’t really tell us much.

Better get it right, MLB

Don’t mess around with an iconic IP. Back in the day, we didn’t have the technology to create any true-blue “simulators,” so everything felt arcade-y and blissfully unrealistic. In this case, I hope the developers give us something like MLB Slugfest; I wanna power up my bat, I wanna dive like Superman for acrobatic catches, I wanna throw heaters that hit like 150 mph on the radar gun. Honestly, in our quest for more and more authenticity, we’ve forgotten how much fun such loopy games can be.
