Balthazar isn’t a fun fight, especially if you wait until Shadowfell to kill him. His use of Cloudkill in combination with his minions deals significant amounts of damage. However, a particular flower can make all the difference. In this guide, we’ll break down a new trick that teaches you how to stop Balthazar from casting forever in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Stop Balthazar From Casting Forever in Baldur’s Gate 3
They’re usually part of making weapons, but players discovered another use for Sussur Blooms. Their effects are more widespread than they should be if you place them just right.
Get Sussur Blooms
Found in the Underdark, Sussur Blooms radiate an anti-magic field. While that prevents enemies from using spells, it affects your own party as well. However, there’s a certain section of Act 2 where you can carry a Sussur Bloom without worrying about combat. Bringing it along your journey means that you’ll make the Balthazar fight easier when you encounter it later.
First, you need to take at least one Sussur Bloom from the Underdark. You can find them near the Sussur Tree, which is shown on the map below.
Give Balthazar a Gift
Then, bring it with you to the Gauntlet of Shar Waypoint. Next, find Balthazar in his chambers beyond the Waypoint and pickpocket him. While rifling through his pockets, drop a Sussur Bloom in them. Since he apparently never bothers to check his pockets, he’ll have the flower when you encounter him later in the Gauntlet of Shar. Or if you decide to attack and fight him immediately. The Sussur Bloom ensures that he can’t cast spells at you or one-shot your squishy party members.
That covers how to stop Balthazar from casting forever in Baldur’s Gate 3. This takes him from a battle that can be frustrating given his resources, to a battle that’s fairly straightforward with less risk of death.
