One of yesteryear’s most iconic side-scrolling action franchises, it once delivered great entertainment to many. Well, don’t look now, but that entertainment is about to return.

Next month, the anticipated Strider reboot will release for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 and to entice you into a purchase, the PlayStation Blog tossed up a great hands-on report.

Kazakh City is overrun with enemy soldiers, automated sentry turrets and scores of frightened citizens. A combination of Russian architecture and dystopian elements paint the background; this is a strange and dangerous alternate future for Earth. Fittingly, this is a side-scrolling action game with “breathless combat and a near feverish pace.” Players will earn all sorts of cool upgrades and powers as they progress, and that will allow them to access different parts of the map.

The main character, Hiryu, is all sorts of capable, as he can zip across rooftops or even fly along wires. Of course, his indestructible plasma weapon, the Cypher, is his trademark tool and it’s faster and better than ever! Featuring beautiful special effects that will really shine on the PS4, Strider is gonna look pretty.

Developer Double Helix made great use of the Dual Shock 4 controller, too. The touchpad comes into play when you open up the world map, and it’s “crammed with useful information.” Combining new-age technology and depth with an old-school format? Gold, baby.

Strider is back!

Is there anything else to say, really? YEE-HA!
