One of 13 Legendary Weapons, Bloodthirst’s unique traits are specific to using it as a main hand or off-hand. This makes it more balanced compared to having those bonuses both active just for having it equipped. But before deciding on how to use it, you need to know how to get Bloodthirst in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Get Bloodthirst in Baldur’s Gate 3
Bloodthirst inflicts vulnerability to Piercing Damage when in your main hand. In your off-hand, it lets you retaliate against enemies who miss a melee attack on you, and you gain True Strike.
Get the Amulet of Bhaal
Since it’s from a boss battle, you need to go through a few steps before you reach Bloodthirst. First, receive the Amulet of Bhaal from the Murder Tribunal. You’ll find them in a hidden area behind the bookcase in Candulhallow’s Tombstones. Remove the painting on the wall across from the bookcase and press the button to reveal a passage.
Find the Temple of Bhaal
After dealing with Saverok and the Tribunal, you visit the Temple of Bhaal. The entrance is located on the map below, but be ready to fight because your trial begins right after the door opens. You fight through groups of Bhaalists on your way to the center of the temple where Orin waits. She likely has a hostage from your companions at this point, so you can rescue the hostage at the same time.
Defeat Orin
Fight Orin, and she drops both Bloodthirst and Crimson Mischief. If you aren’t the Dark Urge, the fight is harder and you want to use attacks like Magic Missiles with multiple hits to wear away her charges of Unstoppable. Ignore her cultists and burn her in the first two turn rounds. After that, deal with the cultists for the cleanest battle.
If you’re the Dark Urge, then you duel her. Don’t hop to your party members and have them help because the cultists will then aid Orin by buffing her nonstop. After defeating her, you don’t have to fight the cultists at all. You will, however, have to make a decision about accepting Bhaal’s Gift. Then, you’re free to loot Orin’s Legendary Weapons.
And that’s how to get Bloodthirst in Baldur’s Gate 3. I prefer it as an off-hand weapon with Crimson Mischief in my main hand, but you can use them either way. They’re particularly great on Astarion.
