Die-hard fans don’t like it when you mess with a great formula.
That’s why CD Projekt Red wanted to appease those who thought Cyberpunk 2077 is an unwanted departure. During a recent IGN interview, studio CEO Marcin Iwinski addressed concerns that the new Cyberpunk was actually just a shooter. Even though the game isn’t expect to launch until 2015 or 2016, the fans are already clamoring for information. “Better not mess it up!” is their rallying cry.
In truth, it’s “definitely not” a multiplayer shooter and it most certainly qualifies as a role-playing game.
“People have been asking me if Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer or if it will be a straight-up shooter, and I tell them to relax, because it will be a true RPG game.”
Iwinski did say they’re including “new gameplay elements” that he can’t talk about yet, but he wanted to remind everyone that his team is “known for storytelling and big game worlds,” and they won’t abandon that core. Cyberpunk 2077 will feature multiplayer of some kind but that won’t affect the game’s RPG construct.
As most of you know, the Polish developer is also working on the promising RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That too will boast multiple gameplay elements but it’s undoubtedly a true-blue role-playing game.
Come on, you didn’t really think this studio would turn Cyberpunk into Call of Duty, did you? If so, shame on you!
