Guild Wars 2 – Mapping Mondays!

Exploring Guild Wars 2 from the Wayfarer Foothills to the Cursed Shore is easier and more fun when you make an event out of it.

Massive Multi-Player Online games refer more to the sheer number of users, but to make their worlds so immersive and contain the volume of players visiting that world, they can become quite epic in scale.

Guild Wars 2 is no exception. Taking it all in and discovering all there is… can be a daunting task. But, working with a party of friends or in cooperation with your fellow guild members, the most difficult PvE tasks and achievements become reachable.

“There’s No End To Tyria!”

So often, my Norn warrior will spout those words as she clambers over another hill or enters a newly discovered valley. Each of the five major races start in various areas of the map, and only as your quest develops and branches off do you have to venture beyond the comfortable confines of your region. Then, maybe you start to get any sense just how big the world is.

It’s very easy to stay within a comfortable playing area of known baddies, familiar dungeons or running a champion train for hours on end (and I’m guilty). I reached level 80 and had still only barely scratched 40% of the map.

Sometimes, when you’d like to see more of Tyria, your guildmates are focusing on WvW or regular party members want to run dungeons. But, some valiant explorers can get together to make discovery and achievement a social event.

Fall In!

Mapping Monday is a regular weekly online event for Guild Wars 2. Crews meet on Stormbluff Isles at 6pm Pacific time (that’s 9 Eastern, 8 Central, 7 Mountain). If you’re not based there, no worries, just pick Guest and select Stormbluff before starting. Do be aware that when guesting, you will have some restrictions on XP and likely no access to your Guild’s Bank.

Each week, the crew will venture farther into the same zone until it’s complete. Here is the current schedule.

  • February 3 – Plains of Ashford (1-15) – Meet at Smokestead waypoint
  • February 10 – Wayfarer Foothills (1-15) – Horncall waypoint
  • February 17 – Snowden Drifts (15-25) – Highpass Haven waypoint
  • February 24 – Diessa Plateau (15-25) – Nolan waypoint
  • March 3 – Lornar’s Pass (25-40) – Nentor waypoint
  • March 10 – Fields of Ruin (30-40) – Hawkgates waypoint
  • March 17 – Blazeridge Steppes (40-50) – Twin Sisters waypoint
  • March 24 – Dredgehaunt Cliffs (40-50) – Graupel waypoint
  • March 31 – Timberline Falls (50-60) – Iron Veil waypoint
  • April 7 – Iron Marches (50-60) – Helion waypoint
  • April 14 – Fireheart Rise (60-70) – Sati waypoint
  • April 21 – Frostgorge Sound (70-80) – Arundon waypoint

Should there be a change in times, starting place or if the event is postponed, check the Stormbluff Isle Community Board for any updates.
