How to Get and Use the Garden Key in Reverse 1999

Finding the Garden Key is much harder than eventually using it in Reverse 1999, so here are all the conditions that you must meet before you can get it:

  • Step 1: Obtain the Tiny Key.
  • Step 2: Unlock an Unpopular Children’s Song.
  • Step 3: Obtain the Self-Defense Guide.
  • Step 4: Complete “About the New Era” chapter.
  • Step 5: Use the Garden Key.

Step 1: Obtain the Tiny Key

All the above-listed conditions can be met as soon as you reach and complete the Manus Vindictae chapter. You can unlock the Tiny Key during Level 2-15: Empty Wardrobe, which is at the very end of the second chapter.

All you need to do here is complete the puzzle of cleaning up all the clothes from the table and the floor and putting them back into the wardrobe. Once you complete the puzzle, you’ll receive the Tiny Key as a reward.

Step 2: Unlock an Unpopular Children’s Song

After getting the Tiny Key, you need to return to Level 2-3: Green Oranges. Select “The Door With the Wet Paint” node in the northern part of the area and submit the Tiny Key. Once you do that, it’ll unlock “An Unpopular Children’s Song.” This song has a number of clues on what to look out for in the next chapters.

Step 3: Obtain the Self-Defense Guide

Right after that, move to Level 2-4: Antidote, where you can find another required item. Travel to Sotheby’s Mansion and select the “Take a Stack of Flyers” option. This will start a puzzle mini-game called “Drag the Critter.” I found the best way to complete this mini-game, so follow these steps:

  1. Drag the Critter to the Cactus.
  2. From Cactus to Kraken.
  3. From Kraken to Gold.
  4. From Gold to Homeless.
  5. From Homeless to Totting.
  6. From Totting to Angel.
  7. From Angel to Finish.

If you did everything right, this will unlock the self-defense guide: “SELF-Protecc Intel You Muss Not Miss!”

Step 4: Complete “About the New Era” Chapter

Finally, you can move onto Level 2-12: About the New Era, which is where you get the Garden Key as a reward after completing it. I recommend going in here with at least character rank 22, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make it here earlier than that.

Step 5: Use the Garden Key

When you have the Garden Key you need to return to Level 2-06: The End of Immortal. Approach the bridge to submit the key at the entrance entwined by thorns, and you’ll be able to move on to the next story area.

That’s everything you need to know on how to get and use Garden Key in Reverse 1999. Stay tuned for more R99 tips and tricks articles right here.
