Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader Thunderfang Choice Guide: Should You Destroy or Spare It?

Should you destroy the Thunderfang or spare it? Here's how to make that choice in and why in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

During Act 1, you’ll see an unidentified Voidship on the star map. Approaching and investigating it reveals it to be Thunderfang, which belongs to the morally dubious Fellowship of the Void. Should you fire and destroy it or spare it? Here’s our Thunderfang choice guide for Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader.

Should You Destroy or Spare Thunderfang in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader?

I wouldn’t recommend destroying Thunderfang since you can trade with them if you avoid hostile dialogue options and choose “…the commercial exchange” option at the end. Yes, The Fellowship of the Void has questionable morals regarding loot acquisition, but there are no consequences for trading with them, and you don’t get anything for destroying them. Simply ask why you can’t identify them, and then choose the first option in the picture below.

Once you spare them, the Thunderfang sells powerful gear options for the early levels. You’ll be able to access the shop every time you approach them. To trade, choose the “Thunderfang, prepare for commercial exchange” option. This will open Thunderfang’s trading menu, and you’ll be able to use your Profit points to buy highly useful goodies like:

  • Flamer: A powerful area fire attack weapon that I recommend equipping on your Argenta.
  • Medikits: You’ll need them for healing and treating injuries.
  • Melta Charges: For opening those pesky doors that won’t open on any level.

There are various other combat trade goods to get here, ranging from armor to miscellaneous gear. Circle back to Thunderfang whenever they’re close by, as you won’t be able to trade with them anymore after Act I. Don’t worry, you’ll find more traders down the line in Footfall as you progress the game.

How to Get Profit Factor in Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader

To trade with the Thunderfang ship and all other shops in the future, you’ll need Profit Factor. You can get Profit Factor in various ways, the main one being completing main missions. Furthermore, some dialogue options will allow you to insist on rewards to get Profit Factor, so focus on those when you see them in dialogue. You can even exchange resources on the Contracts page. Lastly, Colony Projects are an important aspect of gaining more Profit Factor and you unlock them in Act 2. Complete these for rewards and even bonus PF.

That answers the question of whether you should destroy the Thunderfang or spare it in Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader. For more guides like our Operative build, check out our WH40K Rogue Trader hub.
