With the Batman games being the only exception that comes to mind, many gamers can agree that most super hero video game adaptations tend to be lackluster at best.

After Marvel’s Captain America and Thor remodel did nothing short of crash and burn, Marvel claims it has indeed “taught the company a lesson.” The super hero giant continues on to respond that an Avengers game is definitely on the franchise’s horizon, but not until a developer that will take the game seriously and do the movie justice steps up to the plate.

The Three Pillars

According to a recent interview with IGN and TQ Jefferson, Marvel head of games,

“It has to hit our three pillars: Fun and engaging gameplay, true to the characters, compelling story. Without hitting those notes, we shouldn’t do it. Gamers, they know better. They’re not going to flock to something that’s sub-par.”

Jefferson continues by explaining that Marvel’s new attitude on video games is reflected by the absence of a game release at the time of the movie.

“I think in the heyday of the movie licensed game, these games were popping out all the time and most of them sucked.”

Taking the time and doing it right

After fans and critics ripped apart Captain America: Super Soldier and Thor: God of Thunder, Marvel is now determined to get it right.

After The Avengers success in the box office, the company won’t stop until it has a quality, successful game,” with a developer ready to go the extra mile.
