The Crow’s Eye is Watching, and So Are We

Spanish developers 3D2 Entertainment reveal not a lot about The Crow's Eye. Should we be excited?
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

The Crow’s Eye. No idea what I am talking about? I don’t blame you. Until twelve hours ago I had not heard of this title. Nor of 3D2 Entertainment, the developer. I then listened to the following message.

I have never seen anything like this, he was in front of me despite being in broad daylight. His eyes reflected darkness, his mind did not respond to anything. I feel constantly observed, I am feeling paranoid. I have to go back to my room before he…

3D2 Entertainwho?

With my interest piqued, I wanted to know a little more about both 3D2, and The Crow’s Eye. Firstly I wanted to know who was behind this twenty-seven second tease, titled A Close Night.

The above eight people are the main team behind the studio, they call upon external help to assist in fields outside of their expertise. The studio was founded in 2011, in the vibrant city of Barcelona, with the vision to creating games focused on playability before anything else. That is a pretty near place to start, both locale and focus, in my opinion.

We like terror games. OK, yeah… that’s pretty obvious. But if we have to be honest, we’ve grown playing games such as Zelda, Final Fantasy, Super Mario, or Crash Bandicoot (to name a few). During our lifetime we’ve found aspects of the games we played which weren’t convincing enough, and imagined how a game would be if it had this or that thing. Some people would add a yet another twist in Bioshock, for example, as others would in Silent Hill.

They have my attention.

Walk in the Woods. Bring Your Story, Atmosphere and Mechanics.

The eyes, or eye if you are a cyclops, are the windows to the soul. So what do you see inside the eye of a crow that brings and witnesses death? I am going to say we’ll find out upon launch. The Crow’s Eye will be a horror game. It will give you goosebumps. It will make you have some sort of light source in your room. At least this is how 3D2 want it to be, can they make it so?

We know very little now, here is what I can find. The protagonist is a young man armed with a flashlight, he will traverse a University at the very least.

The university is a dark, grim place, with walls worn out by the passing of the years, where every noise or shadow may startle [you], and where even the most unexpected items may end up being of help.

3D2 have spent two months working on the plot alone. Making sure each point was connected, made sense and was convincing. The atmosphere was next; light slipping through slits in the curtains, sound effects making you question your day-to-day knowing, making the graphics aesthetically pleasing without striving for a photorealistic world (something I am happy to see admitted).

Finally, mechanics. As already said, it’s a horror game. 3D2 have also taken other styles on board, implementing them into The Crow’s Eye.

…Stealth, investigation, puzzles, and many more we’ll be revealing later on…

I’ll be Keeping My Eyes Open

From what 3D2 have teased so far, and what I know can come out of the mind of the Spanish–Looking at you Rec–You can colour me excited! How about you?
