Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader — Best Choices to Avoid the Aeldari Battle on Janus

Choose the right responses to avoid a confrontation with the Aeldari in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

Sometimes, the best way to win a battle is to try and find the most peaceful way to resolve a situation. However, diplomatic solutions aren’t always clear. Here’s my guide on the best choices to avoid the Aeldari battle on Janus in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

You can avoid the Janus Aeldari battle the Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader by choosing certain Iconoclast options. Note that Iconoclast is one of three potential convictions/alignments that your character can have (the other two being Dogmatic and Heretical). Here’s what I did to get around the situation peacefully.

The Best Dialogue Choices for the Aeldari on Janus

An Aeldari companion, Yrliet, can join you temporarily during this portion of the campaign. Once you reach the forest on Janus, you’ll battle rebel soldiers, along with the Aeldari that seem to be leading them. Later, you’ll arrive at a Webway gate. There, you’ll meet Farseer Muaran, who claims to know more about the situation on Janus and the planet’s governor. Here are the dialogue options that I chose during this exchange:

  • “If I may, I would like to say something…”
  • “I’m sorry to hear that your home was destroyed. But I wasn’t there and I know nothing of this calamity.”
  • “I am willing to help the Aeldari defeat the Archenemy. But first we must deal with the rebellions that you’ve been orchestrating.”
  • “If this world is in danger, there is no sense in fighting each other–let us deal with our common enemy together.”
  • “And where is my guarantee that the planet and its inhabitants will be safe?”

From here, several dialogue options appeared, including those related to convictions/alignments. I suggest choosing either of these two:

  • [Iconoclast]: “I don’t want any more blood–neither yours nor ours. You have my permission to take Janus and its inhabitants into your charge.”
  • [Iconoclast-Follower]: “We shall do things another way: I shall grant my protection to this form of alliance between xenos and representatives of humanity. Together, we shall destroy Vistenza…”

Either of these two options allows you to avoid the Janus Aeldari battle in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. In effect, you’ll resolve the situation through peaceful means. I feel that this is the best way to conclude this part of the campaign.

Other Dialogue Options and Choices

As far as I can tell, the other responses lead to battle or further animosity between your group and the Aeldari:

  • [Iconoclast-Follower] [Address Yrliet]: “I can’t convince your kinsman, but I know you are on my side.”
  • [Heretical-Follower]: Note that I didn’t have this option unlocked during my playthrough.
  • [Persuasion-40]: “I cannot give Janus to the Aeldari–humans will only be ruled by humans.”
  • [Dogmatic]: “I’ve had enough of talking. If you xenos refuse to bow down before the Rogue Trader, you will leave me no choice but to kill you.”

If you decide to go this route, be ready for a tough fight. Several rebels surround your flanks. Likewise, Muaran can cast a spell that deals damage within an area, and the other Aeldari will try to pick off your companions with sniper shots.

How to Recruit Yrliet After the Encounter

If you managed to avoid the Aeldari battle on Janus in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, you’ll be able to recruit Yrliet as a long-term member of your squad. Simply choose: “It is an honor to welcome an Aeldari wanderer into my ranks.” There’s also a dialogue option where you simply tell her to bugger off for good: “Xenos do not belong in a Rogue Trader’s retinue.”

Conversely, if you decided to fight the Aeldari and the rebels, you can still recruit Yrliet. The “it is an honor” response should still be among the choices. However, there are two additional options that will prevent you from making her a companion permanently:

  • “Get out of my sight. I have no need for the company of a traitor.”
  • [Dogmatic] [Kill Yrliet]: “Might as well send you off along with the rest.”

All Outcomes for the Aeldari Choice on Janus

Lastly, you might be wondering about the ramifications of these choices. I’ve spent some time working them out so you can go into this interaction with the best knowledge of future events:

  • If you kill Farseer Muaran and the Aeldari:
    • You’ll receive some nifty loot, such as the Wraithbone Staff (melee weapon with the Consign ability) and Rune Armor (+10% dodge if you have 50 or more Willpower).
    • Depending on your responses when talking to Janus’ governor, Vistenza Vyatt, you may fight her in her secret chambers later on.
  • If you resolve the matter with the Aeldari peacefully:
    • You won’t receive Muaran’s loot.
    • During your chat with Vistenza, the Maid of Honor will assassinate her instead. The Maid of Honor becomes your main target during the upcoming battle in the secret chambers since she’ll keep summoning Daemonettes of Slaanesh.
    • An investigation by the Inquisition might not look to favorably on you for siding with the Aeldari, though this has almost no bearing outside of worldbuilding.
    • Muaran and the Aeldari will welcome you once you return to Janus via the Webway at the end of Act 3.

Long story short: avoiding hostilities with Muaran and the Aeldari seems to be the best option, and it’s also what I preferred during my playthrough. It’s revealed that Vistenza and her cohorts are already corrupted by Slaanesh anyway.

That’s everything you need to know about how to avoid the Aeldari battle on Janus in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Now that Yrliet is part of your squad, you might also want to complete her Aeldari in Distress companion quest. For other tips and tactics, you can check out our WH40K: RT guides hub.
