How to Solve the Unidentified Light Beam Puzzle in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader

Here's how to solve the light beam patterns to receive rewards in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

The Unidentified Ruins light beam puzzle can be a real headscratcher, stopping your progress cold. You’ll need to create patterns based on clues if you want to obtain a few goodies. To help you get past it, here’s how to get each solution in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader.

All Unidentified Ruins Light Beam Puzzle Solutions in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

You can solve the Unidentified Ruins light beam puzzle in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader by aligning the laser to create distinct patterns in the area. As you get close to the puzzle, you can pass either the Demolitions or Athletics check to reach the main chamber.

From there, you can activate the device by interacting with the central pillar, which allows you to direct the beam to any of the receptacles on the side. You can then interact with the receptacles to move the beam to hit other mechanisms. Ultimately, the goal is to complete one of the available patterns: one is visible on the ground, another can be uncovered by interacting with the icon, and one is hidden.

Note that the first pattern (the one that looks like a fan or a sail) doesn’t yield any reward. In fact, a discovered note says that it was already used by soldiers that arrived at this area before you did. As such, I’ll focus on the two remaining patterns. Take note that whichever one you pick will lock you out of receiving the other reward.

Light Beam Puzzle Star Pattern Solution and Reward

The star pattern is visible on the ground. Here’s what I did for this solution:

  • Interact with the central pillar so the beam goes to the bottom-right pedestal, then follow this pattern:
    • Bottom-right pedestal to top-left pedestal.
    • Top-left pedestal to top-right pedestal.
    • Top-right pedestal to bottom-left pedestal.
    • Bottom-left pedestal to central pillar.

This nets you the Ancient Force Sword. It deals 17-23 damage, has 30% armor penetration, and bonus damage based on the wielder’s Psy rating.

There’s also a secret pattern, which, as far as I know, was first posted by Reddit user Desthion. I’ve decided to call it the warhammer pattern due to its distinct shape, which resembles the logo of this particular hobby that we all love. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Click the central pillar and have the beam go to the bottom-left pedestal.
  • Bottom-left pedestal to top-left pedestal.
  • Top-left pedestal to top-right pedestal.
  • Top-right pedestal to bottom-right pedestal.
  • Bottom-right pedestal to central pillar.

You’ll receive two nifty items for this. There’s the Chains of Domination, a necklace that grants +5 Willpower for every enemy you kill during a particular battle. Likewise, there’s the Foulsight Veil, a helmet that gives +15 Perception but -5 Willpower. This counts as Aeldari equipment, which means Yrliet can wear it, too.
