Getting to the max level in Diablo 3 is a daunting task for some, especially for those who have already played the game a lot. Since I do not have Reaper Of Souls yet, this guide will be void for all characters and features in the expansion. Sorry, Crusaders and adventure mode lovers, this is for those who want to power level through the campaign. I will assume that you already have a level 60 character or higher.
Things You Will Need
In order to unlock the harder difficulties and power level efficiently, you need to have a hero who has defeated Diablo, this will unlock the Master difficulty. For those who are finding themselves courageous and wish to start a new character on Torment difficulty, you need to also have a hero at level 60 or above.
Another thing you will need is to have your Blacksmith at level 5 or higher; doing so will make the first 30 levels a bit easier. No need to worry too much about your Jeweler, combining gems and switching them out every time you get a new piece of gear will be very costly as time goes on.
Lastly you are going to need some extra cash, If you have 100k or higher than you’ll be in the clear.
Which Difficulty Should You Pick?
There are 10 different levels of difficulty in Diablo 3, ranging from Normal to Torment VI. Each step up in difficulty will raise your enemies health and damage, but also reward you with more gold and XP. The extra bonuses in Master and Torment are for characters above level 61.
Normal: 100% Health, 100% Damage, 0% Gold, 0% XP
Hard: 200% Health, 130% Damage, 75% Gold, 75% XP
Expert: 320% Health, 189% Damage, 100% Gold, 100% XP
Master: 512% Health, 273% Damage, 200% Gold, 200% XP
Torment I: 819% Health, 396% Damage, 300% Gold, 300% XP
Torment II: 1311% Health, 575% Damage, 400% Gold, 400% XP
Torment III: 2097% Health, 833% Damage, 550% Gold, 550% XP
Torment IV: 3355% Health, 1208% Damage, 800% Gold, 800% XP
Torment V: 5369% Health, 1752% Damage, 1150% Gold, 1150% XP
Torment VI: 8590% Health, 2540% Damage, 1600% Gold, 1600% XP
So an enemy that has 10 HP and does 10 damage on Normal will have 81,090 HP and do 396 damage on Torment I. But if he usually drops 10 gold and gives 10 XP on normal, he will give 300 gold and 300 XP on Torment I.
The highest difficulty I suggest you choose for a new character is Torment I for Melee characters, like the Barbarian or Monk, and Master for ranged classes like the Wizard or Witch Doctor. For some reason I find myself being able to survive a lot easier with Melee classes on Torment I, using a Wizard on this difficulty resulted in me dying a lot.
What To Do
After clearing the gate of undead in front of New Tristram, quickly head over to the merchant and replace your current weapon and buy some armor, doing this will increase your damage and survivability by a lot. Make sure to stock up on health potions too, having at least 20 should save you some trouble.
Gathering lore books like Leah’s Diary and Cain’s Journal will help you with power leveling, this includes the randomized strong boxes that are slightly hidden throughout Act I. Other than plowing through the quest lines, make sure to search for randomized events, bonus objectives and be sure to kill everything.
Make sure you use your healing runes and abilities liberally, adding the Blood Lust rune to Rend on a Barbarian will be the difference between life and death in some cases.
