When I saw the trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on Monday, I thought that it looked gorgeous. Now, senior animator and coder Corrinne Yu of Naughty Dog has confirmed that the trailer we saw is in fact in-engine, and not a pre-rendered CGI.

Corrinne Yu is currently animating and coding for Uncharted 4, and had previously worked on The Last of Us with Naughty Dog. Through Twitter, she confirmed that what we saw in the trailer for A Thief’s End was in gameplay, and was not a pre-rendered cut scene.

The trailer for A Thief’s End looked incredibly good, and had great detail in it. The environments also looked gorgeous, which is what led some people to believe that the trailer was a CGI cut scene, and was not actually in-game. Now that we know that this trailer was in fact in-engine, I am sure that we can expect a beautiful game out of Naughty Dog.

The fact that this is what Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will look like does not truly surprise me. Naughty Dog’s games have always looked great. And the Uncharted series and The Last of Us were all absolutely beautiful. Naughty Dog  has a knack for making their games look good, and I am sure that A Thief’s End will not disappoint.

While the game will be beautiful, I still am a little worried about Uncharted 4. We saw several of Naughty Dog’s team leave over the past few months. This kind of raises red flags, and is something that I know is probably in the back of many people’s minds. The game looks good, and now we have to wait to see if the gameplay and the story will match the visuals that were present at Sony’s conference. We will just have to trust that Naughty Dog knows what they are doing and believe in them.

Uncharted 4: A Theif’s End will release sometime in 2015.
