The name of the newest Fatal Frame game was announced on the Nico Nico stream and it’s called Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden, a game exclusive to the Wii U.

In Fatal Frame tradition, the protagonist is a young woman named Yuri Kozukata who finds the Camera Obscura and her life will change forever because of it.

According to the released information, Yuri has a special ability to bring those who have been “Spirited Away” to another realm back into the regular world. The reason she goes to the Mountain location in the game is because she was “requested” by someone to go there and that’s all the information that’s been released so far about the story.

The location has more weather this time around, with the rain falling down providing an interesting backdrop for the ominous tone the trailer sets. From what the trailer has shown, other than rain there is a lot of dialogue and plenty of scary specters this time around, including a girl who slits her throat before promptly disappearing.

The gameplay uses the Camera Obscura just like in the previous entries of the series but uses the Wii U Gamepad allowing you to see things you were unable to see before and fight off the ghosts trying to kill you. The stream revealed many things but one thing that should be mentioned is that there was the only release date announced was for Japan, September 27, 2014. Which of course causes gamers to guess that this game will also be released exclusively in Japan just like the previous entry in the series.

Hopefully, Nintendo will share this Fatal Frame on a worldwide stage again so gamers won’t be forced to get a fan translated version of the game in order to play this beloved survival-horror franchise.
