2014 has been a year of game delays. Heck, it’s been THE year of game delays – with 2014 has had more titles pushed back than at any other year in gaming history. Many games got pushed into next year, including Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Now, yet another game joins that list: Evolve.
Originally slated for an October 21 release, Evolve has now been pushed back until February. Publisher Take-Two stated that the extra development time will benefit developer Turtle Rock Studios. They also called February “a favorable release window.” They provided this statement to Polygon:
“As stated on the Take-Two Interactive earnings call, 2K and Turtle Rock Studios are extending the development of Evolve by a few months to allow enough time to fully realize the vision for Evolve and meet our collective standards of creative excellence.
We are encouraged by the press reaction and fan excitement coming out of a very successful E3, and we are now certain we are headed in the right direction with the game and we are confident in delivering a genre-defining product when Evolve launches on February 10, 2015.”
Evolve was originally due to release during a busy month. But with delays to Battlefield Hardline, Dragon Age Inquisition, and now Evolve, October seems a little lighter.
While I would have liked to get my hands on Evolve in October, a delay could be a good thing. Turtle Rock Studios now has more time to polish the game, and make it better. Hopefully the extra time shows, and the game is worth the wait.
While October does look a little less busy, 2015 is looking like a good, yet busy, year for gaming. Hopefully all of these delays will bring out the best of these games, and 2015 ends up a great year for gamers.
Evolve is a new take on the multiplayer first person shooter. The game has a team of four humans battle a giant player-controlled monster in a fight for survival. Evolve will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 10, 2015.
