BioWare Releases New Dragon Age: Inquisition Trailer with Appearance from Hawke

BioWare releases new Dragon Age: Inquisition trailer with some familiar faces in the mix. Also, tons of dragons.

Despite the fact that the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition has been pushed back until November this year, BioWare continues to build momentum for the game by releasing a new trailer at Gamescon.

In addition to giving Dragon Age fans a glimpse of the larger narrative of Inquisition, the trailer also shows fans a familiar face: Marian Hawke. For those of you skeptical as to whether this is really Hawke, the protagonist from Dragon Age 2, Mike Laidlaw, the creative director of Dragon Age, took to twitter to confirm.

While Dragon Age 2 was perhaps the least popular of the series, it’s great to see Hawke conducting business as usual (business for Hawke is killing things). It’s also an interesting decision on behalf of BioWare to cement a female Hawke into the official Dragon Age canon.

However, it’s unsurprising that given a choice to between your Warden from Dragon Age: Origins and Hawke from Dragon Age 2 that the BioWare team chose to give Hawke the trailer cameo.

Due to the amount of narrative freedom Dragon Age: Origins offered players (choosing from 3 races, 4 origins, a zillion different endings) it’s exponentially more difficult to incorporate your Warden’s story into Dragon Age: Inquisition

We probably won’t know how (or if) the Dragon Age: Inquisition team has incorporated the story from Origins until November. In the meantime, I’ll be watching this new trailer on repeat hunting for any other easter eggs or tidbits to fuel fan theories.
