There are several different currencies in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Moogle Medals are one of the toughest to find. Knowing how to get these Medals lets you parlay with the Moogles they’re named after to purchase rare or otherwise difficult-to-obtain items.
Where to Find Moogle Medals in FF7 Rebirth
As one of the rarer currencies in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Moogle Medals don’t come in large quantities wherever you find them. Even when you do find some in slightly larger quantities, don’t expect such sources to be numerous or easy to get to. That said, I have found two main ways to get your hands on Moogle Medals.
Spoiler Alert: There are potential story and world spoilers for FF7 Rebirth past this point. Read on at your own risk.
As I said, there are two main ways to get Moogle Medals in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: breaking loot boxes or from rabbit burrows. There’s some additional nuance to both methods, however, and one additional method that doesn’t award many, but is worth mentioning.
How to Get Moogle Medals from Breakable Boxes in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
The Moogle Medals you get from the breakable boxes on Remnawave towers are guaranteed. There will always be at least two medals per tower, though the further you progress, the harder the boxes are to find. The activation node for the tower might be above or below the boxes with Medals in them, and I’ve found that while the puzzles to find the boxes are never hard, they do often incorporate Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth‘s unfortunately awful on-foot traversal mechanics.
You can also find Moogle Medals as rewards for destroying random boxes out in the open world or in a quest-related dungeon. Essentially, if you see boxes marked with the Shinra logo, press the Square button to destroy them. You might get a Moogle Medal or at least some useful items you can use in your adventures.
How to Get Moogle Medals from Rabbit Burrows in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
The other main way to get Moogle Medals is to have your Chocobo dig them out of rabbit burrows. As you ride around the open world, your Chocobo will sometimes have a blue question mark appear above its head. Pressing Up on the D-Pad allows your Chocobo to sniff the air around to discover the route to whatever treasure they’ve sensed, and you should definitely look around when the bird finds something. If there are rabbits running about, you’re near a burrow.
Rabbit burrows are hotspots for valuable crafting materials and currencies in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. They don’t always reward Moogle Medals, but when they do, you’ll get five Medals at a time. If you’re unlucky, the burrow will give you something other than a handful of Medals. But the currency or crafting materials you do get would’ve been annoying to find otherwise. In short, if your Chocobo thinks those wabbits have something good hidden away, they probably do.
How to Get Moogle Medals by Redoing Mogstool Challenges
There are eight Mogstools, the World Intel locations keyed to Moogle Merchants and spending Moogle Medals. Each time you complete one, you unlock the ability to challenge it again for a single Moogle Medal on completion. I find these activities a bit tiresome, but if you enjoy them for their cuteness or mechanics, do them as you please.
What Can You Buy with Moogle Medals in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth?
To spend Moogle Medals, you need to help the Moogle Merchant found at Mogstools throughout FF7 Rebirth. There are eight Mogstools, marked by a Moogle symbol on your map once you activate the nearby Remnawave tower. The Merchant will ask that you help them by capturing five Mooglets per Mogstool, after which you can buy a growing list of items from them. Below are the items available after completing five Mogstools, and will be updated as I clear more.
