How to Fix Online Play Unavailable in Last Epoch

With any successful new game release, servers will be overwhelmed by new players, and this happens to be the case for Last Epoch. The game has had swarms of active users, and the servers are congested. That means logging in to play online is hit-and-miss. Some players can get in, as I’ve been able to, while others simply can’t. Unfortunately, waiting for the servers to stabilize and other players to log off is the best course of action right now.

While you can play Last Epoch offline, as I’ve outlined in the next section, you can also try some basic troubleshooting to ensure that the issue isn’t on your end. Check your internet connection, reset your router, restart Last Epoch, Steam, and your computer, and check for any outages with your ISP.

While you’re waiting you can keep up with the developers over at Eleventh Hour Games via the Last Epoch forums. They’re consistently adding updates and interacting with the community, which is refreshing to see from a dev team. A Status section details the timing of their feedback. For instance, the team stated:

“150k CCU (concurrent users) and the initial burst of volume has our matchmaking services experiencing some issues that we’re quickly working to rectify. We’re in the war room with our backend team and service providers turning all the dials and knobs as quickly as we can.”

While many games might be hampered by online play unavailability, you can still enjoy Last Epoch offline if you’d like. Here’s how to do it.

  • Exit Last Epoch if it’s running.
  • Open Steam.
  • Head to your Steam library.
  • Right-click on Last Epoch in your library.
  • Select Properties.
  • Select the Launch Options dropdown in the General tab.
  • Select Play Full Offline.
    • Alternatively, you can select “Ask when starting game.”
  • If you load in and can’t see your character in the selection screen, be sure to restart LE and Steam. However, online characters can’t play on offline servers, and vice-versa.
