How to Rescue Ravengard Without Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you want to save Duke Ravengard without Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can refuse her pact thus saving Wyll and find Ravengard yourself. He’s located in an underground and underwater prison called the Iron Throne which is beneath the Flymm’s Cargo warehouse across the docks in southwest Baldur’s Gate. Go to the location in the screenshot below and you’ll see that the warehouse has two entrances A and B. I highly suggest taking option B I marked on the map since there are Wargs in the warehouse and you can surprise them by Stealthing through the B entrance.

After entering the warehouse and defeating the Worgs, I would recommend looking around and locating the trapdoor leading underground. It’s in the northwest of the room. Once you go down you’ll go through an abandoned prison area. I looked around here a bit and found some metal chests with some decent loot on the top level. That aside, progress through the iron door at the end of the prison corridor and you’ll enter an underground dock with a submarine in the middle with a dwarf captain Redhammer the Deviser patrolling it. He’s a non-hostile NPC that you’ll need to Persuade, Deceive, or Intimidate to take you down to the underwater Iron Throne prison where you can rescue Duke Ravengard and even Omeluum and the Gondian family gnomes.

I must point out that once you descend to the Iron Throne, Gortash will contact you and warn you to back off. You need to refuse his offer and proceed to the prison. That said, this does three things:

  • First, you’ll no longer be able to form a partnership with Gortash and his quest to kill Orin and rule together will fail.
  • Second, this will trigger an explosion in the Iron Throne prison giving you only five rounds to rescue Duke Ravengard.
  • Third, Omeluum will telepathically talk to you and you can Persuade him to reveal the locations of all prisoners.

Let’s guide you through the prison and how to rescue Duke Ravengard as fast as possible.

5 Tips to Save Duke Ravengard Without Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3

This encounter starts with your entire party next to a ladder leading to the prison area below. I marked the other prisoners and Duke Ravengard along with your location with an X. Essentially, you have 5-6 rounds to save him depending on the difficulty by opening his prison door with the lever next to it and leading him back to the submarine deck. This goes for all the prisoners here if you want to save everyone. Here are my tips and notes to save Duke Ravengard.

Tip 1: Plan Team Composition and Gear

Bring a highly specialized team to this rescue mission. I highly recommend casters that have Misty Step, Dimension Door, or Arcane Gate to teleport the Duke out. Rogues are also useful due to their Cunning Action Dash. Healers can ensure Duke Ravengard lives. Alternatively, teleportation spell scrolls, high-tier Healing Potions, Potions of Speed, and Haste Spore Grenades also fill these roles. Note that you can throw Healing Potions and Potions of Speed to heal or buff allies from range. Classes that have Extra Attack like Fighters, Rangers, or Paladins can throw multiple items per turn.

Tip 2: Open Prison Doors With Ranged Attacks

You don’t have to open prison doors manually in melee, instead, I recommend you shoot them with arrows or hit them with Magic Missile and any other projectile. Arrows of Transposition can also help to teleport you around.

Tip 3: Be Prepared for Mizora’s Ambush

Once you free Duke Ravengard you can control him to lead him to the submarine deck but once he leaves his cell Mizora will appear restraining the Duke for a round and spitefully summoning explosive spiders to kill him. There are 6 spiders and each one can do 6d6 fire damage on their turn or when they’re killed. It’s imperative that you throw a couple of Healing Potions on him to heal him outside of the spider explosion kill range. Alternatively, you can also throw a Potion of Invisibility on him and spiders will ignore the Duke. Potions of Speed are another useful throwable here.

Tip 4: Dealing With Sahuagin

Try to ignore the Sahuagin guards like Champions but do try to take out the Hunters since they can Net allies and Restrain them if the net hits. That said, in the later rounds, you just have to ignore them as they spawn and hope for the best.

Tip 5: Rescuing Omeluum and Gondians

If you’re attempting to rescue the other prisoners, I rescued Omeluum first since he can instantly teleport to the submarine along with one other person. I essentially split my party and sent a team for each prisoner. Two members including a Wizard with teleportation spells and a Ranger with Extra Attack outfitted with Healing Potions, a Potion of Speed, and a Potion of Invisibility were sent after the Duke. Then, I sent a Rogue after Omeluum and my Fighter after the Gondians who opened cells with ranged attacks.

After the 5-6 rounds are up, the prison will explode and any who are outside of the submarine will die. Once you rescue Duke Ravengard and whoever else you managed, they’ll thank you and you’ll leave the Iron Throne. If you lost any party members, you can resurrect them at Withers.
