10 New Mega Evolutions We’d Love to See in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Following the announcement for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, here are 10 new Mega Evolutions we'd love to see.

With the announcement for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it looks like we may finally receive new Mega Evolutions. First introduced to the mainline series back in X & Y of Generation VI, the feature has since proven to be a fan-favorite gimmick. After nearly a decade without any new Megas, here are the top 10 Mega Evolutions we’d love to see added in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

10. Dragonite

Okay, there’s no shortage of Generation I love in recent Pokemon entries. That being said, Dragonite is one of just a few pseudo-Legendaries without a Mega Evolution, and this Dragon/Flying-type powerhouse is well overdue for a new look. Fans have long questioned the direction of its design, so it would be cool to see a new form that more closely resembles the serpentine Dratini and Dragonair.

9. Krookodile

While we’ve yet to receive any news on Gen V remakes, I’m still holding out for a trip back to Unova. If Nintendo and Game Freak plan to revisit Black & White and their sequels soon, it’s possible we might get a Mega Evolution for Krookodile in Legends: Z-A. As a top-choice Pokemon among fans of the original entries, this Dark/Ground-type’s concept is definitely versatile enough for a killer Mega.

8. Chandelure

In the same vein, Gen V’s Chandelure is perhaps one of the most beloved additions to the Pokedex. Since it was first introduced, the Fire/Ghost-type has been favored by collectors and competitive players alike. Given this Pokemon’s unique design, there’s room for some creative tweaks to its look. It currently mirrors a candelabra-style chandelier, but I think a two-tier Mega Evolution could work nicely.

7. Kalos Starters

If Legends: Z-A follows the formula established in Arceus, then we can safely assume we’ll meet a rag-tag team of starters from past generations when we revisit the Kalos region next year. This also means we may have opportunities to catch the traditional starter trio in the wild. Pokemon fans were understandably shocked when Delphox, Chesnaught, and Greninja didn’t receive their own Mega Evolutions in X & Y, so it would only be fair for the region’s own to get new final forms.

6. Hawlucha

Conceptually, Hawlucha is one of the most interesting Kalos Pokemon. While it had its time in the spotlight as a permanent member of Ash’s team in the animated series, this single-stage Pokemon deserves a Mega Evolution in the same way that Gen III’s Absol did. A Fighting/Flying-type, Hawlucha is a solid Pokemon in its own right, but a Mega could improve its overall performance in the ring.

5. Noivern

Fans have long debated Noivern’s status as Kalos’ reigning pseudo-Legendary, pitting it against the stronger Dragon-type, Goodra. That said, Goodra received a redesign in Legends: Arceus, making Noivern a better option for a new Mega Evolution in Z-A. Admittedly, Noivern has been my favorite Pokemon since X & Y, so I fully support the campaign for this Dragon/Flying-type’s Mega.

4. Flygon

Flygon was infamously snubbed when Mega Evolution was first introduced in Gen VI. Ken Sugimori, a longtime Pokemon illustrator, has since admitted that the team had worked on a new form for the Dragon/Ground-type, though a final design was never reached. It goes without saying Flygon’s Mega is long overdue, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that it won’t be overlooked during development for Legends: Z-A.

3. Haxorus

While plenty of Dragon-types have made the cut for Mega Evolutions we’d most like to see in Legends: Z-A, Haxorus slashes the competition. Much like Noivern, it didn’t quite reach pseudo-Legendary status back in Gen V, but it’s regularly appeared throughout newer entries to the series — if only through events and DLC. Despite this, the pure Dragon-type hasn’t received the recognition it deserves, and an edgy Mega could change that. The bigger the blades, the better.

2. Talonflame

The Kalos region’s quintessential bird Pokemon, Talonflame, is arguably one of the most popular picks among fans to date. Following the release of X & Y, the Fire/Flying-type’s competitive viability was a driving force behind its budding popularity. Although, its sleek and appealing design has definitely contributed to its staying power. A fitting Phoenix-like Mega Evolution would help to buff its existing weak points and give its look a well-deserved lift.

1. Aegislash

Of all the Pokemon we’d like to see Mega Evolve in Legends: Z-A, Aegislash comes out on top. A Steel/Ghost-type, the Royal Sword Pokemon boasts one of the most memorable designs introduced in Gen VI. While its Stance Change ability allows it to change its form in a way, Mega Evolution could take this one step further. With greater detail added to its ribbon, blade, and shield, I think a Mega design is easily achievable.

After reading through countless TikTok comments and Twitter threads, these are the top 10 Mega Evolutions we’d most like to see in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. However, this list isn’t complete without a few honorable mentions. Mine are Starmie, Reuniclus, and Florges, but there are heaps more Pokemon that could do with a Mega. Check back for updates and theories on the return of this fan-favorite feature in Legends: Z-A here at GameSkinny.
