Destiny 2 Skimmer: How to Unlock, Ride & Grind the Hoverboard

Guardian Games 2024 in D2 takes place between March 5 and March 26. During this event, players can unlock their first Skimmer. In this guide, I’ll provide you with tips on how to unlock, ride, and grind the hoverboard in Destiny 2.

How to Unlock the Hoverboard in Destiny 2

Once you enter the Guardian Games 2024 in Destiny 2, you can take part in various questlines that will unlock your first hoverboard, the Allstar Vector Skimmer. But if you want to keep this or other hoverboards permanently, then you need to complete a few more questlines. Here, I detail how to unlock and keep a hoverboard in D2:

1. Start and complete the “Best in Class” questline to unlock the Allstar Vector Skimmer by doing the following:
   • Speak to Eva Levante.
   • Earn a Medallion after you complete any of the activities from the playlist.
   • Place the Medallion on the Tower Courtyard podium.
   • Speak to Zavala and Shaxx in the Tower.
2. Start and complete the “Drop In” questline to keep the Allstar Vector Skimmer forever by completing one of these tasks:
   • Earn a 1,200 Medallion score.
   • Earn a top 10% score in the Nightfall challenges.
   • Open Focus Activity winner’s package.
3. If you wish to purchase the Winged Wolf Skimmer from Eververse Trading Company, then it’ll cost 2,500 Silver as part of the Gjallarheart Gear Bundle.

How to Ride & Grind the Hoverboard in Destiny 2

To ride a Skimmer, I suggest you first equip it in your vehicle slot, simply replacing your Sparrow. I was surprised to learn that the hoverboard has similar controls to Sparrow, so it’s going to be very easy to use. For example, while pressing the jump button, I can perform various mid-air and flip tricks. However, there are a few caveats that I’d like to mention:

• If you’ve assigned the “Hold to Crouch” button, then you need to assign another button to the “Toggle Crouch” action.
• If you don’t do this, then your “Grind the Air” button won’t work, which will prevent your Skimmer from doing anything.
• If you assign all of these different actions to different buttons, your “Toggle Crouch” button will allow you to perform some amazing tricks.

Another important thing I need to mention is the ability to “Grind Rails” with your hoverboard. This is one of my favorites of all the Skimmer’s special features. Simply activate the Grind ability to ride along holo-grind rails that appear all over the game world. This allows you not only to hover over the moving surface but also to perform tricks in the air while grinding. But I must warn you that this trick consumes the Skimmer’s energy levels, so utilize it sparingly.

How to Activate Grind Ability in Destiny 2

If you’ve never used the Grind ability before, then here’s how you can enable it with various classes in Destiny 2:

• Warlock and Titan: Hold the crouch button.
• Hunter: Double-tap the crouch button.
