People hoping to see an international release of Zero: Nuregarasu no Miko (Known as Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden to NTSC fans) seem to be out of luck. Koei Techmo’s European Twitter account revealed that the new Fatal Frame title will be “as far as they know” a Japan-only release.
The tweet was in answer to the “#WeWantFatalFrame” campaign created by Fatal Frame fans desperate to see an international release of the newest entry into the franchise, even creating a Change.org petition that now has over 2,500 signatures. One company even admits to hacking the original Wii just to play the previous Japan-exclusive Fatal Frame entry. Despite the tweet, the campaign doesn’t seem like it’ll be slowing down anytime soon.
Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden follows Yuri Kozukata, a girl gifted with the ability to bring people who have been “spirited away” to another realm back to the regular world. After accepting a request, she travels to a mountain where she must battle horrors in various damp areas thanks to the mountain’s large lake. The Wii U exclusive title requires players to use the system’s gamepad as the Camera Obscura, a camera-like device that can capture the souls of spirits (and usually the only way you can actually see the spirits attacking you). The game was released in Japan on September 27th and received a 33/40 from Famitsu.
