You’ll need the perfect combination of powers and weapons to defeat those pesky elves and stop Mr. Hanky in South Park: Snow Day. Each weapon, ranged and melee, has different strengths, so here’s the list of the best weapons to use in South Park: Snow Day.
All Weapons in South Park: Snow Day, Ranked
You can always use two weapons, but only one melee weapon and one ranged weapon. As you progress through the chapters, you’ll unlock up to three varieties of melee and ranged weapons. Since each has different types of attacks, it can be challenging to figure out which weapon works the best. If you’re playing with friends, you can play multiple types simultaneously, having each player wielding something different. Here’s a look at which ranged and melee weapons worked the best for me!
All Ranged Weapons, Ranked
Ranged weapons allow you to hit enemies at a distance, such as those annoying archers that chill in the background. They’re also great for letting you play more defensively, like when you’re sitting back trying to heal up. There are three types of ranged weapons: the Staff, Bow, and the Wand. Here are the rankings based on their power and usefulness.
3. Staff
Even though the Staff isn’t the first ranged weapon you’ll get, I found it harder to use than the starting Bow. It’s capable of hitting multiple targets at once, but the targeting was more difficult to control and shoot out quickly.
Unlike the Bow, the Staff is less precise and more focused on AoE-type attacks. It lobs fireballs in an arch and lands on the ground in the circular target area, hitting any enemy standing there. Plus, it can be charged up for a larger radius.
It’s convenient to hit more than one enemy at a time. Still, the targeting is more complicated to direct on top of them, especially when enemies are directly above you and you can’t see the ground to place the target. Even if its damage was a little bit better than the bow’s, the targeting made it less effective and landed it last on the ranking.
2. Bow
The Bow, even being the very first ranged weapon you get, is more effective and faster than the Staff. It focuses one enemy at a time, but it’s fast-firing, easy to aim, and precise on shots, allowing you to hit headshots every chance you get.
I enjoyed the Bow more because of its targeting and speed. Unlike the arch and circular radius of the Staff, the Bow has a direct line where the arrow will travel and pierce. This allows a more precise shot and makes it easier to hit headshots, which will do more damage. Plus, the speed of the bow is much more reliable, so you can continue firing shots forward in rapid procession.
Even if the base ability only hits one enemy at a time, you can get some upgrades, like the Ricochet, that solve that problem, allowing the arrow to hit multiple targets. The upgrade potential, speed, and precision make the Bow outweigh the staff and make it more worthwhile.
1. Wand
The Wand is my favorite ranged weapon and by far the most effective. Although it doesn’t have as far of a reach, it blasts out instantly and hits anything in its path.
The Wand doesn’t have the targeting like the Bow and Staff; instead, it will continue firing out while you hold the button. While you give up precision, you are capable of hitting more enemies at once. I found it particularly useful for keeping enemies back while I take the time to heal up by my Healing Totem.
The best part of the Wand, and honestly what makes it the best, are the upgrades. One upgrade, in particular, allows the wand to create a status effect on the ground, placing a fiery puddle that damages anything in it or anything that wanders into it. You can blast out continuous damage and set up defensive measurements by placing fire around you, making it the very best.
All Melee Weapons, Ranked
Melee weapons are most likely what you’ll be using most of the time. They’re your main source of outgoing damage. You’ll unlock three types: Dagger, Sword and Shield, and Two-Handed Axe. Here’s the ranking of how effective they are.
3. Sword & Shield
There are parts of the Sword & Shield that I really enjoyed, like the shield bash, but overall, it’s the slowest of the three melee choices. Because it’s the slowest, you’re giving up one of the most important parts of combat—mobility, when using this one.
Give up one of your swords to wield a shield in one hand. This allows for an extra line of defense, with your aim button working as a block instead. This will completely negate incoming damage if timed correctly. However, with that extra bit of defense comes a sacrifice of speed. Your sword will be much slower compared to the dual-wielding daggers, which I found to be a major inconvenience.
It can be useful to block attacks, but speed is more critical, especially with so many enemies in each area. Depending on the enemy, they can quickly break through your shield, and then you’re stuck relying on slow and steady swings and any bonuses you may have added with upgrades.
2. Dagger
The Daggers are the first melee weapon you’ll get, which immediately may make you think they are the least effective. However, their speed is the best out of all your melee options.
The Dagger, or Daggers, is a dual-wield option and, without a doubt, the fastest-swinging melee weapon you can get. Even though it doesn’t have the defense that the Sword & Shield does, because of the speed, you can get several attacks in and dodge any returning strikes with ease.
It may not have insane amounts of damage or even as much damage as the Sword & Shield, but mobility proves to be more critical for attacks and defense with the number of enemies you’ll face. This is why I found the Dagger a better option and why it ranks higher on our list.
1. Two-Handed Axe
The Two-Handed Axe is the last weapon you’ll unlock, but if it wasn’t evident from the name, it’s the most effective weapon for pure damage.
You wield this makeshift axe with two hands, allowing you to deliver high-impact damage with each swing and on multiple targets at once. You can also jump up and ground pound with the axe, stunning enemies you land on. What I enjoyed the most about the axe, however, was the cyclone ability. Charging up your swing will initiate a cyclone attack, where you swing around chaotically and multi-hit any enemies in your path.
There’s no doubt that this Two-Handed Axe is the best option for melee weapons, just for the damage and special attacks alone. Although it may be a bit slower than the Daggers, you won’t have to worry about it as much since you’ll still have that mobility thanks to the jump attack and cyclones.
This is my ranking of the best weapons to use, but you may find some other options that work better for you. Try each one, combining different ranged and melee options until you find a deadly duo. Plus, don’t forget to take your powers into account as well.
