Matthew Perry is the first boss you’ll face in Rise of the Ronin. Although this fight is supposed to teach you how boss fights work, it can be difficult. In this guide, I’ll show you how to defeat Matthew Perry in Rise of the Ronin.
Rise of the Ronin: How to Defeat Mathew Perry
Matthew Perry is the leader of the Black Ships that you’re sent to infiltrate in the tutorial mission. He’s a formidable opponent that can attack fast and hard. Perry also has a Revolver that he’ll use to shoot you from a distance or use in a combo. He also has two Heavy Attacks that’ll deal loads of damage if they land.
Parrying
So, how do you beat Matthew Perry? The most important advice I can recommend is to perfect parrying. Perry has super fast attacks, so you won’t be able to dodge all of the time. The timing can be difficult, but once you get the rhythm of his attacks, you’ll be parrying with ease. You’ll want to make sure you parry all of his Heavy Attacks.
Beware of Firearms
As mentioned before, Perry has a Revolver that he can use to shoot you from a distance and in combos. If you’re keeping your distance, dodge to the side as soon as he aims his gun at you. However, I don’t recommend using your own rifle during this fight. It’s slow, and by the time you aim your shot, he’ll be right on top of you.
Explosives
This boss fight introduces the mechanic of throwing items in the environment with your Grappling Hook. The ship is filled with explosive barrels that you can launch at Perry. This will stagger him, making it the perfect time to attack aggressively or heal up if you’re low on health.
