I have an ever-growing pile of unneeded items in my LEGO Fortnite world, but thankfully, that pile can finally go away. The items can go to good use with the new Compost Bin. This station will help turn garbage into resources. Here’s how to make a Compost Bin.
How to Get a Compost Bin in LEGO Fortnite
The Compost Bin works as a sort of trash can, but instead of simply discarding unwanted items, it turns them into valuable resources. Before you put it to use, you’ll need to collect the materials to build it.
How to Build the Compost Bin
The Compost Bin crafting recipe is in your Build menu under the Stations section. You should get the recipe for it immediately with the new Mechanical Mayhem update. To make it, you’ll need the following materials:
- Plank x5 – From wood at a Lumber Mill
- Soil x2 – Dug from the ground with a shovel
- Sand x1 – Dug from the ground with a shovel in desert or beach biomes
- Fertilizer x3 – Harvested on the ground from animals
How to Use the Compost Bin
With the Compost Bin crafted and ready to go, you can begin tossing some items into it.
Interact with the Compost Bin to open the menu and get started. Then, drag the items you want to put inside it over to the Composter Queue. They will begin processing in the Processing section just below it. You can keep track of their progress by the yellow meters below their icons. Processing takes time, so you’ll have to wait for it to finish before you can collect your compost resource from the Created Compost slots.
There are three types of resources you can get from the Compost Bin, no matter what you put inside of it:
- Soil
- Fertilizer
- Biomass
The rarity of the compost and the amount of compost you receive is based on the rarity and amount of the item you put in. For example, if I put all common items inside the machine, I’m bound to get all common resources in return, such as Soil or Fertilizer. If I put a bunch of epic rarity items, I have a better chance of getting more valuable resources, like Biomass.
What Can You Put Inside the Compost Bin?
Unfortunately, you can only put certain types of items inside the Compost Bin. This means you won’t be able to use it to discard any old weapons or tools you don’t use anymore. Instead, you’ll need to place only resources and food items. They also have to be raw materials, meaning no refined items that you made on a station or crafting bench.
Biomass is essential for powering up your vehicles with Power Cells, so try to put as many items of high rarity inside as possible. However, Soil and Fertilizer are just as important to have if you want to grow your own food. Now, you can start composting for yourself!
